The company suggests its Earth Dreams series of engines, transmissions and other technologies will continue to evolve, with greater focus on two-motor hybrid systems. The company's two-motor technology first debuted in the 2014 Accord plug-in hybrid and standard Accord hybrid, which is claimed to achieve the highest fuel efficiency rating of any five-passenger sedan in the US.
"No manufacturer has more experience with electromotive technologies than Honda and we are committed to applying our expertise to a wide range of products in the coming years," said Honda America SVP of auto operations Michael Accavitti. "Our hybrid vehicle strategy will focus on new models aimed at delivering the class-leading fuel economy and performance our customers' desire in segments that represent significant growth opportunities."
Honda last week confirmed plans to discontinue its Insight hybrid, one of the worst-selling cars in the US and in other markets. The company appears to have achieved better sales with its Fit hybrid, though plans for a US launch have yet to be announced.
