Official fuel economy and CO2 emissions confirmed for new Honda Civic and Jazz models

https://hondanews.eu/eu/en/cars/media/pressreleases/125041/official-fuel-economy-and-co2-emissions-confirmed-for-new-honda-civic-and-jazz-models?utm_campaign=NewsAlert_2099&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=hondanews.eu

Honda has confirmed official fuel economy and CO2 emissions for two new 2018 models, including the upgraded Civic 1.6-litre i-DTEC, which offers fuel economy of up to 3.5 l/100km (80.7 mpg) on the NEDC test.

Comprehensive revisions to the 120 PS 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine for the all-new Honda Civic range endow it with an outstanding combination of performance and efficiency. The improvements reduce cylinder friction, improve the efficiency of NOx conversion, and further develop the driveability of the car.

Under the combined cycle of the revised NEDC test, the new Civic 1.6 i-DTEC has achieved low CO2 emissions of 93g/km, with official average fuel economy of 3.5 l/100km (80.7 mpg) recorded for all grades.

The other new model tested is the 2018 Honda Jazz, which has a fresh look and the addition of a 130 PS 1.5 i-VTEC petrol engine – introduced in response to customer demand for a more powerful variant.

The new petrol engine combines high output with low fuel consumption, and complies with stringent Euro 6 emissions standards. It achieves fuel economy of 5.4 l/100km (52.3 mpg) and CO2 emissions from 124g/km with the optional CVT automatic transmission. The CVT system itself has been revised to deliver a more linear and refined response under acceleration.

Other revisions to the Jazz supermini include an update to the exterior styling, incorporating the Honda family ‘Solid Wing Face’ headlight signature and grille. The 1.5 i-VTEC petrol engine is offered as part of a new Dynamic grade for the Jazz, which adds a thinner front splitter beneath the lower grille, and a triple-strake diffuser to the rear bumper – both finished with a sporty red accent line.

Inside, the 2018 Jazz retains the exceptional versatility of the previous model, including boot space of 354 litres (up to 897 litres with the rear seats folded down) and passenger space unrivalled in the class.

European order books for the new Civic diesel will be open this month, with the first demonstrator models arriving in dealers from early February. The new Honda Jazz is available to order now, with the first customer deliveries expected early this year.

Former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button leads Honda’s Civic Type R Time Attack 2018   salut'

Honda is aiming to reinforce the class leading status of the award-winning Civic Type R by using a squad of racing stars to set new lap time benchmarks at iconic European racetracks.

Although the complete driver line-up is still to be finalised, Honda has confirmed that former Formula 1 World Champion and current NSX Super GT driver Jenson Button (UK) will take part in the challenge. WTCR drivers Tiago Monteiro (Portugal), Esteban Guerrieri (Argentina) and NSX Super GT star Bertrand Baguette (Belgium) will join Jenson for the challenge.

A similar challenge in 2016 saw benchmark lap times set at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Estoril and Hungaroring using the previous generation Civic Type R. The drivers included racers from the British Touring Car Championship and World Touring Car Championship.

For the 2018 edition, Honda will aim to exceed the times set at Silverstone (UK), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) and Estoril (Portugal) in 2016, with further tracks set to be announced.

The new Honda Civic Type R retains the heritage of Honda’s high-performance hatchback bloodline and is the fastest accelerating and quickest car in its class. The latest car to sport the famous ‘red H’ was part of the all-new tenth-generation Civic’s development programme – the largest in Honda’s history – and was engineered to deliver the most rewarding drive in the hot hatch segment, both on road and on the race track. It features a lightweight, highly rigid bodyshell, low centre of gravity, and sophisticated dual-axis strut front suspension system, which reduces torque steer and enhances on-the-limit cornering.

Powered by a 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine, the new Honda Civic Type R offers a peak power output of 320 PS at 6,500 rpm, and peak torque of 400 Nm from 2,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The car has a top speed of 272 km/h (169 mph) and 0-62 mph is achieved in just 5.7 seconds. In April 2017, a production development car became the fastest front-wheel drive production car ever around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a lap time of 7min 43.8sec.

Honda will show the 2018 Time Attack Civic Type R at the Geneva Motor Show from 8 - 18 March.

Geneva Motor Show 2018  salut'

All-new CR-V

The latest generation of the Honda CR-V will make its European premiere in Geneva. Available for the first time in Europe with the option of a hybrid powertrain, the new SUV raises the bar in terms of quality, interior packaging and refinement.

A trio of Honda electric concepts

The Urban EV Concept makes a return to Europe following its global premiere at Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017. The Concept signifies Honda’s intention to enter the European electric vehicle market, with a production version planned for launch next year.

Fresh from its premiere at 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October, Honda will also display the Sports EV Concept. With an eye catching design and low centre of gravity, it gives a glimpse of how an electric sports car of the future might look.

The final member of an electric trio at Geneva is NeuV. First shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2017, the NeuV is an advanced electric concept packed with autonomous features and artificial intelligence.

Honda’s celebration of Motorsport

Alongside the range of new electric cars, Honda will show an extensive display of four and two wheel motorsport. The Civic Type R TCR will lead this display and make its first motor show appearance ahead of the inaugural season of WTCR. The TCR will be alongside many examples of Honda racing machinery, including the NSX GT3. On two wheels, Honda’s championship-winning MotoGP bike will feature alongside World Superbike and Dakar Rally challengers.

Jazz X-Road motor show debut

Honda’s display will be finished with the debut of the Jazz X-Road. Designed as a more rugged option in the range alongside the recently launched Dynamic 1.5-litre i-VTEC, the car features rugged black plastic mouldings around the wheel arches and side skirts, and silver painted front and rear underruns. The exterior look is finished with 16-inch alloy wheels. Power comes from a 103 PS 1.3-litre engine mated to a manual gearbox or optional CVT automatic transmission.

 2. Honda to unveil the all-new CR-V at the Geneva Motor Show

New European production version of the world’s best-selling SUV* shown at Geneva Motor Show
Elegant and athletic design with sharper contours and wider stance
All-new seven-seat option will also be available
Honda hybrid technology available in CR-V for the first time in Europe
First European customer deliveries expected from Autumn 2018

Honda is set to reveal the European production version of the all-new CR-V at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The new generation of the world’s best-selling SUV* raises the bar in terms of interior quality, refinement and spaciousness – including, for the first time, the option of seven seats.

The chassis is also the most sophisticated ever created for a CR-V, and ensures the car delivers an engaging driving experience with exemplary ride comfort, as well as genuine off-road capability.

Evolutionary exterior design and premium quality interior

The all-new CR-V has a fresh and sophisticated exterior design, with broader, muscular wheel arches, sharper contours on the bonnet and rear quarters, as well as the latest Honda family ‘face’ with its signature headlight graphic.

Thinner A-pillars, sculpted front and rear bumpers, and under-engine and under-floor covers all help to make the new CR-V one of the most aerodynamically efficient vehicles in its class. It also incorporates Honda’s Active Shutter Grille system, which further improves fuel efficiency.

The new interior design incorporates a horizontal emphasis to the dashboard layout to highlight the more spacious cabin, by accentuating the feeling of width and conveying a sense of strength. The dashboard features two 7-inch displays, while the layout of controls has been rationalised with a simple cluster for air-conditioning management located beneath the central touchscreen.

Class-leading practicality and new seven-seat option

The all-new CR-V boasts slightly larger exterior proportions than its predecessor, and the longer wheelbase and wider stance enable a significantly roomier interior. Best-in-class space efficiency is highlighted by generous accommodation for all occupants, as well as a wider, deeper boot with a longer load bay. A new two-position boot floor enables a flat surface for loading larger items, while a Hands-Free Action power tailgate enables convenient loading access.

Clever features make the new CR-V easier to use every day. For example, the height of the tailgate when opened can be programmed to avoid contact with low ceilings, and cabin flexibility is boosted by a three-mode centre-console storage. Furthermore, new single-action ‘dive down’ 60:40 split-fold second-row seat backs enable faster, easier loading.

For the first time ever, CR-V will be available with the option of seven seats. Where selected, the third row offers exceptional leg room and heel step height, as well as a 101-degree seat angle to ensure long-distance passenger comfort. Access to the third-row seats is also class-leading, thanks to a wide and low step-in aperture.

New engines deliver impressive efficiency and driveability

For the first time ever, Honda hybrid technology will be offered in an SUV for Europe. The all-new CR-V will be available with Honda’s Intelligent Multi Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system, comprising a 2.0 litre i-VTEC Atkinson cycle petrol engine and two electric motors, to deliver real-world efficiency and effortless driveability. The i-MMD system does not use a conventional transmission – instead, a more compact unit has a single fixed-gear ratio, to create a direct connection between moving components and a smoother transfer of torque.

A 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine, which provides strong performance and class-leading fuel economy, is also available. Power is delivered via a six-speed manual gearbox, or an optional CVT automatic transmission tuned to deliver a more linear response.

The petrol and hybrid powertrains are front-wheel drive as standard, but both can be specified with Honda’s latest all-wheel drive technology – ‘Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System™’ – which gives the CR-V genuine all-terrain capability. Ground clearance has been increased by 38mm for all variants, up to a height of 208mm for the AWD petrol model.

First deliveries of Honda CR-V fitted with the 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine are expected in Autumn 2018 with hybrid models following early in 2019.

4. Honda moves into Customer Racing

CHAMPIONSHIP-WINNING TEAMS SELECT NEW HONDA CIVIC TCR FOR FIA WTCR

ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport and Boutsen Ginion Racing choose Honda for FIA World Touring Car Cup
Tiago Monteiro and Esteban Guerrieri to race Civic TCRs
Support package available to customer teams from JAS Motorsport

Multiple examples of the new Honda Civic TCR, built by JAS Motorsport, have been ordered by ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport and Boutsen Ginion Racing to contest the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) this year.

Tiago Monteiro and Esteban Guerrieri, who drove for the Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team in 2017, are the first two drivers confirmed to race the Civic TCR.

ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport have chosen Esteban to lead their line-up while Boutsen Ginion Racing have recruited Tiago for their team.

Tiago, 41, was a standout performer in World Touring Cars last year and was cruelly denied a chance of turning his championship lead into a world title when he sustained injuries in a mid-season testing accident that forced him to sit out the rest of the campaign.

The only Portuguese driver to finish on a Formula 1 podium, Tiago is one of touring-car racing’s global stars with 11 wins and 44 podiums in the WTCC to his name as well as victories in the prestigious Macau Guia Race and TCR Benelux.

Esteban, 33, joined Honda for the final three WTCC events of 2017, substituting for the injured Tiago, and took a dominant victory from pole position at the season-ending race in Qatar on his way to fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship.

He is a multiple race winner in Super TC2000 in his native Argentina and has also claimed victories in the Indy Lights and Formula Renault 3.5 single-seater series to add to championship success in the Formula Renault Eurocup.

All-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport, who have previously run a Honda Civic TCR in the FIA European Touring Car Cup, bring a wealth of racing success to the Honda Racing family.

FIA GT1 World Champions in 2012, the team from Friedersdorf, Germany, have claimed a number of WTCC victories and have twice triumphed at the Macau Guia Race. Boutsen Ginion Racing have been customers of the Civic TCR programme for the past two seasons and achieved huge success in both.

Stephane Lemeret claimed the TCR Benelux drivers’ crown in 2016 while Benjamin Lessenes did likewise in 2017 as well as adding the junior drivers’ title for the team from Wavre, Belgium.

Technical support will be offered to all customer teams by JAS Motorsport with an on-site supply of spare parts and technical assistance at each event, aimed at helping all Honda drivers with their title challenges.

The new Honda Civic TCR, designed and manufactured by JAS, made its global race debut in January this year at the 24 Hours of Dubai. It is the successor to the Civic TCR which won 12 championship titles last year – seven drivers’ and five teams’ crowns.

The FIA World Touring Car Cup begins at the Circuit Moulay el Hassan in Marrakech, Morocco, on April 7-8 and comprises 10 events in Africa, Europe, South America and Asia; concluding on the iconic Macau street circuit on November 17-18.

Tiago Monteiro, Boutsen Ginion Racing, said: “I’m delighted to remain part of the Honda Racing family for another year. Since I first worked with Honda in 2012, I feel we’ve been getting stronger and stronger by the season and by last year we were in a very good place to win the championship before my accident. The past six months have been incredibly tough, but thanks to some amazing support I’m now well on my way to getting back in a racing car. Boutsen Ginion Racing are a strong team, who I’ve won races with in TCR before, so I can’t wait to drive the car and for the season to start.”

Esteban Guerrieri, ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport, said: “I felt like last year was a real breakthrough year for me in world touring cars, so I’m extremely pleased to be racing a Honda Civic in 2018. TCR is the fastest-growing touring car category in the world and I’m incredibly excited to be a part of this programme. I had some great races against the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich cars in the WTCC last year and it’s clear they can run a very fast machine, so I’m optimistic of putting together a title challenge.”

Masashi Yamamoto, General Manager of Motor Sports Division, Honda Motor Co., said: “We are delighted that ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport and Boutsen Ginion Racing have chosen Honda and the Civic TCR for the FIA World Touring Car Cup. We are also honoured to continue the relationships with two of the world’s best touring car drivers within the Honda Racing family and trust that JAS Motorsport will provide a state-of-the-art racing car that will challenge for victories regularly. With the Civic TCR, we wish for brilliant success from both teams and drivers in the WTCR.”

Alessandro Mariani, JAS Motorsport CEO, said: “We are pleased that the Honda Civic TCR, built at our Milan headquarters, will contest the FIA World Touring Car Cup with teams with such strong records as ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport and Boutsen Ginion Racing. We have good relationships with both teams and a relationship with Honda that dates back to 1998, and we look forward to supporting the teams in WTCR as they hunt for more success. Since it first turned a wheel last October, the Civic has undergone more than 3000km testing, tackled a 24-hour race on its competitve debut and has proven to be an improvement in all areas over the previous model, which delivered 12 championship titles in 2017. We look forward to the challenge ahead.”

New Honda CR-V scores five stars in Euro NCAP assessment

https://hondanews.eu/eu/en/cars/media/pressreleases/161997/new-honda-cr-v-scores-five-stars-in-euro-ncap-assessment?utm_campaign=NewsAlert_2657&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=hondanews.eu

The new Honda CR-V has been awarded the maximum five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP safety tests, the results of which are announced today. The CR-V boasts a unique body structure giving class-leading rigidity and stiffness, and a comprehensive suite of active safety technologies.

Utilising an ‘All Directions Collision Safety’ concept, the platform design incorporates Honda’s exclusive next-generation ACE™ (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) body structure. This employs a network of connected structural elements to distribute collision energy more evenly, helping to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger cell in the event of an impact, giving superior front, side and rear crash-worthiness.

Honda e Prototype previews production model evolved from 2017 Urban EV Concept
Distinctive, clean exterior design combined with a contemporary, minimalist interior featuring advanced technology
Rear-wheel-drive platform and wide stance deliver dynamic driving characteristics
Honda e Prototype delivers a vehicle package to meet the needs of the modern urban environment

Honda’s new urban electric vehicle will be previewed at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show in the form of the Honda e Prototype. This new model leads on from the brand’s highly acclaimed 2017 Urban EV Concept, and is a key part of Honda’s “Electric Vision” strategy for the European region.

Designed to meet the needs of the modern lifestyle, the Honda e Prototype combines unique design, advanced functionality and engaging driving dynamics. The vehicle delivers a package perfect for the urban environment.

Distinctive, simple exterior design

The Honda e Prototype has been developed with a focus on functionality & purpose featuring a simplicity of design with unique character. The smooth body contours lead from the bonnet to the panoramic windscreen to create a continuous surface up and over the front passengers. Further enhancing aerodynamic performance, the stepless A-pillars sit virtually flush with the glass, to help deliver a quiet, refined journey.

Stand-out style elements, which accentuate the clean, uncluttered profile, include flush ‘pop out’ door handles and compact cameras replacing traditional side view mirrors. Both the door handles and Camera Mirror System are unique features for a vehicle in this class. The car’s advanced charging port is integrated centrally in the bonnet for ease of use from either side of the car, with LED lighting visible through the glass cover to welcome the driver and inform of the battery charging status.

Black panels with unique concave profiles at the front and rear are defining design motifs. The unique and exacting attention to detail of the round light clusters enhance the overall simple, clean design and defines the Honda e Prototype’s ‘human face’.

Beneath the skin is an all-new, EV-specific platform that allows for compact proportions, while a relatively long wheelbase, wide track and short overhangs facilitate exceptional urban manoeuvrability and dynamic driving characteristics. The appearance of a low, muscular stance – emphasised by the flared wheel arches that accommodate the wide tyres – lends a dynamic accent to the simple, clean exterior design.

Contemporary interior with advanced technology

Inside, a spacious cabin with a modern minimalist aesthetic creates a relaxed ambience for occupants. A comfortable lounge-like feel is achieved with the application of melange-style sofa fabric and other tactile materials often found in contemporary homes. The sense of spaciousness is enhanced by the walk-through flat floor in the front and rear of the cabin.

To keep occupants engaged with their connected lifestyles, the intuitive and customisable dual screen horizontal display features a range of intelligent applications and services. This sophisticated high-end interface has been designed for ultimate usability and shifts the car beyond being a means of transportation to become fully integrated into modern everyday life.

The array of next-generation digital aids is presented alongside many of the car’s comfort and infotainment controls for easy multi-tasking and simple menu navigation. Screens showing the rear-view images relayed from the Camera Mirror System are integrated at either end of the dashboard ergonomically positioned to ensure a natural feel and vision for the driver. The vehicle also features a digital rear view camera increasing the driver’s field of vision.

Sporty and efficient for urban commutes

The first compact Honda car on a dedicated EV platform delivers a blend of efficiency, performance and usability that is perfect for urban environments. The Honda e Prototype will deliver a range of over 200km and a ‘fast charge’ functionality of 80% battery charge in 30 minutes, making it ideal for everyday commuting. On the road, the driving dynamics are focused on delivering a fun and emotive experience, with the powerful electric motor driven through rear wheels for next-generation small-car performance.

The Honda e Prototype will be unveiled on 5 March at the Geneva International Motor Show. Production of Honda’s compact urban electric vehicle will begin later this year.

1. Introducing the most sophisticated HR-V ever

2. Elegant exterior design with a tough SUV stance, and a new Sport grade

3. Enhanced line-up of efficient and powerful engines with an engaging drive

4. Spacious and versatile interior

5. Refined interior design with high quality materials

6. Comprehensive suite of advanced technologies

7. Technical specification

1. Introduction: A refreshed generation of the subcompact SUV – spacious and versatile with a sophisticated feel and fun driving dynamics

Elegant exterior design with the tough stance of an SUV
Efficient and powerful engines with an engaging drive
    Sophisticated, spacious and versatile interior
    Comprehensive suite of advanced technologies

The new Honda HR-V is the company’s most sophisticated subcompact SUV to date. Sportier exterior styling is complemented by upgrades to the interior design and materials, as well as a broader range of advanced technologies. The HR-V continues to offer the space and versatility of an MPV and now benefits from enhanced driving dynamics and a wider choice of fuel-efficient engines.

From the first glance, the new HR-V’s more elegant features are apparent – including a more substantial interpretation of Honda’s 'Solid Wing Face’ graphic. The HR-V’s tall stature combined with its solid design and strong presence provides a feeling of safety, security, confidence and useability.

Inside, the 2019 HR-V offers impressive interior space and – thanks to innovative features like Honda’s Magic Seat system – high levels of versatility. High quality soft-touch materials and sophisticated design elements define the HR-V’s interior as an optimal blend of practicality, refinement and the feel of a sporty, enclosed cockpit.

The new 2019 HR-V offers buyers a choice of powerful and efficient engines. Production of the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol variants commenced in late 2018, while the higher-performance 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine is available from Spring 2019. The 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine is also available in selected markets. All engines are mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard, while the petrol engines are also offered with an automatic CVT.

2. Elegant exterior design with the tough stance of an SUV, and a new Sport grade

Distinctive design gives HR-V an emotional appeal
Updated model features sportier exterior styling
Refreshed ‘Solid Wing Face’ graphic in high-gloss chrome
Dynamic profile with sleek glasshouse and hidden rear door handles
HR-V Sport introduces a dynamic styling pack

The HR-V’s overall design concept combines the elegance and fluidity of a coupé with the utility and strength of an SUV. For the latest model, Honda’s development team sought to enhance its sophistication and emotional appeal through a range of design updates.

Honda’s HR-V has a coupé-like cabin profile, with a powerful nose and strong lower body forms, together with finely-sculpted surface detailing. It creates a characterful look that produces an emotional appeal among its target audience, which highly values style and practicality.

On the road, the new HR-V boasts a distinctive and self-assured identity, while having a clear family lineage. The refresh leads with a more substantial interpretation of Honda’s ‘Solid Wing Face’ graphic with a new, high-gloss dark chrome panel that replaces the black-and-chrome combination above the grille.

HR-V’s coupé-like body shape creates a dynamic and sporty look, complemented by rear door handles integrated within the C-pillar. Distinctive, sharply-defined lines run the length of the body, giving the HR-V a purposeful, forward-leaning stance and a sense of movement and agility, even at a standstill.

For the latest model, Honda’s designers sought to bestow HR-V with an even more robust presence. Strongly sculpted lower body panels are enhanced by deeper air intake sections in the front bumper that house circular fog lights, while the headlights now have projector lenses with LED daytime running lights as standard.

At the rear, a dark chrome garnish across the tailgate mirrors the trim at the front, and the rear lights sit within dark lens casings.

On higher-grade models, the wheels are upgraded to a new 17-inch alloy design, and the exhaust tailpipe has a unique chrome finisher. The headlights and rear lights are upgraded to full LED units, and the rear casings are enhanced with a dark ‘smoked’ effect.

HR-V retains outstanding aerodynamic performance in the crossover segment. Beneath the vehicle, three covers (under the engine, front floor and rear floor) help to smooth and optimise air-flow, boosting fuel efficiency. They also enhance noise insulation for improved interior refinement. Aerodynamic development work focused on optimising front and rear aerodynamic lift to further improve vehicle stability at speed.

The toughness, solidity and sure-footedness associated with larger SUVs are complemented by intricate seamless detailing, ensuring that HR-V possesses the elegance to look attractive in any scene.

Honda will offer a choice of nine exterior colours for the 2019 HR-V, including the new additions of Platinum Grey Metallic (Sport only) and Midnight Blue Beam Metallic. The other colour choices comprise: Milano Red, Platinum White and Crystal Black in a pearlescent finish; and Lunar Silver, Modern Steel, Brilliant Sporty Blue and Ruse Black metallic hues.

2019 HR-V Sport

For the new HR-V Sport model, a high-gloss black chrome panel replaces the darkened chrome of the standard 2019 HR-V across the front. An exclusive black honeycomb finish is also applied to the front grille garnish, which carries over into the fog light surrounds.

The HR-V Sport is uniquely fitted with a dynamic styling pack, which comprises a slim front splitter, side skirts, wheel arch mouldings and a more aggressive rear bumper – all finished in black. It also includes black door mirror caps, dual exhaust pipes and 18-inch alloy wheels in a unique design. Sport grade cars are equipped with full LED headlight and tail light clusters, enhanced at the rear with a dark ‘smoked’ effect and black inner bars, as well as a black chrome garnish across the tailgate.

3. Enhanced line-up of efficient and powerful engines with an engaging drive

Choice of 130 PS or 182 PS petrol and 120 PS diesel engines
Six-speed manual gearbox and enhanced CVT for petrol models
Stiff structure gives confidence-inspiring secure driving feel
Sport model fitted with advanced 'Performance Damper' technology

Expanding the range of powertrains available, the new Honda HR-V will be available with a choice of powerful 130 PS (96 kW) 1.5-litre i-VTEC or 182 PS (134 kW) 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engines, or a highly efficient 120 PS (88 kW) 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel ( available in selected markets only). Each of the four-cylinder engines are engineered to deliver responsive performance together with low fuel consumption.

1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol

With an optimal balance of power and efficiency, the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine produces 130 PS (96 kW) and maximum torque of 155 Nm. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC powertrain employs Honda’s VTEC (Variable Timing and Lift Electronic Control) and VTC (Variable Timing Control) technologies, complemented by strong tumble intake ports and an optimised piston shape to provide benefits in output and efficiency. For the latest model, it has been further enhanced by ‘advanced plateau honing’, that lowers the friction level between the pistons and the cylinder bores by creating an ultra-smooth surface. Its timing chain guides also feature a new friction-reducing coating, which further helps to reduce long-term wear and boost engine efficiency.

1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol

A new addition to the 2019 HR-V line-up is the powerful 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO engine, which was first seen in the latest generation Honda Civic. The HR-V Sport has CO2 emissions from 151g/km* (WLTP) (from 135g/km NEDC Correlated) and combined cycle fuel economy from 6.7l/100km to 7.1/100km* (WLTP).

1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel

This efficient diesel engine incorporates extensive technologies that reduce friction, improve emissions and increase fuel economy. The 1,597cc engine features a small, high-efficiency turbocharger, low-pressure EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system and a high-intake flow, high-swirl cylinder head port. A high-strength, lightweight slender crankshaft and all-aluminium, open-deck, high-pressure, die-cast engine block also help to keep the engine’s weight as low as possible.

Powered by the diesel engine – which generates 120 PS at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm – the new HR-V accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 10.0 seconds, placing it among the most dynamic vehicles in its class. Fuel economy ranges from 5.0l/100km to 5.2l/100km* (WLTP data) with combined cycle CO2 emissions from 132g/km* (WLTP) (from 105g/km NEDC Correlated).

Both the petrol and diesel engines are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard. A lightweight and high-rigidity shaft improves the overall efficiency of the transmission, while a shorter gear throw than other SUVs in the segment provides a sportier feel.

Responsive and refined CVT

Available as an option for the two 1.5-litre petrol engines, Honda’s popular CVT offers a natural ‘multi-gear’ feel through the use of control software – exclusive to Europe – which simulates seven speeds, and provides optimised gear change mapping.

Honda’s turbine twin-damper torque converter technology further enhances the optional CVT, which reduces the fluctuation in torque input to the transmission, improving durability as well as NVH management. It delivers a more direct response to engine speed, which results in a more linear feel for the driver.

Two software features also provide situation-specific enhancements. Firstly, Early Downshift During Braking (EDDB) utilises the engine to assist the driver during braking. When the system recognises a deceleration downhill, or in a cornering situation initiated by the braking system, EDDB automatically increases the engine speed to provide engine braking. This then allows for quick acceleration after controlled braking or after cornering.

Secondly, Fast Off measures how quickly the driver releases the accelerator pedal and maintains engine revs to provide engine braking in situations where the driver has released the pedal quickly. This system has been extensively tested for Europe’s high speed, multi-lane roads. For example, Fast Off recognises when the driver has prepared to pass a vehicle in front, but is unable to complete the manoeuvre due to a vehicle in the next lane. As the driver quickly releases the accelerator pedal to let the vehicle behind pass by, Fast Off maintains a high engine speed in preparation for completing the overtaking manoeuvre.

Enhanced ride comfort and handling

HR-V buyers in Europe will benefit from Honda’s Synaptic Damping Control (SDC) system, which was introduced for the first time in the 2015 HR-V. Fitted to all models as standard, the system enhances both ride comfort and handling by modifying damping force according to the road surface and driving conditions.

Dynamic tuning for the 2019 HR-V builds on a highly rigid platform and bodyshell, which includes high-strength steel for 27% of the body. The stiff bodyshell gives the standard suspension (MacPherson struts at the front and an H-type torsion beam at the rear) a solid foundation, which – together with a low centre of gravity and minimised body roll – delivers a reassuring solidity and inspires a feeling of security when driving.

The HR-V’s motion adaptive electric power-assisted steering system helps to minimise understeer, working in parallel with the low roll centre at the front suspension and the higher roll centre at the rear. The result is exceptionally linear driving behaviour making HR-V one of the most confidence-inspiring cars in the crossover segment, especially when driven enthusiastically.

Powerful and stable stopping power for the HR-V is assured with an all-disc braking system, featuring 293 mm ventilated front discs and 282 mm solid discs at the rear. Electronic aids which boost braking power and enhance vehicle stability include: Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, Vehicle Stablity Assist and Hill Start Assist.

Advanced technologies for HR-V Sport

Honda has developed the HR-V Sport model to cater for owners who want a more dynamic driving experience from their subcompact SUV. As part of an upgrade package that aims to optimise the balance of body rigidity, suspension control and steering feel, the HR-V Sport is equipped with bespoke 'Performance Damper' technology.

The damper system, integrated at the front and rear of the car, is engineered to counteract the relative lateral and torsional movement through the chassis. It keeps the car flatter through corners, enhances stability during sudden lane changes and reduces vibration over uneven roads.

The HR-V Sport also boasts a bespoke steering set-up, employing a variable-ratio electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion system, which is complemented by Honda's Agile Handling Assist technology. It delivers a steady response at on-centre and near-centre steering angles, and a smoother response at off-centre steering angles.

* Vehicle emissions are certified with the new type approval procedure WLTP in accordance with Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/1151.

4. Innovative and versatile interior space

Centre-mounted fuel tank layout creates class-leading interior space
Rear passengers benefit from an abundance of head, leg and knee room
Honda’s Magic Seat® system provides unrivalled cabin versatility
Cargo space easily accessed through wide and low tailgate opening

The Honda HR-V’s interior layout is tailored to the dynamic and demanding preferences of the modern and discerning consumer. The latest model remains as versatile as ever, including the carry-over of Honda’s innovative Magic Seat system.

Honda’s team has balanced class-leading interior space, ease of use and storage space with dynamic and emotional design. HR-V boasts an interior packed with functionality but also with a sense of personal space and fun. Roomy and incredibly versatile, the HR-V’s cabin brings the virtues of an MPV into the crossover segment while providing a driving position which engenders a sense of agility and dynamism.

The foundation of the HR-V’s spacious and versatile interior is Honda’s centre-mounted fuel tank layout. This space-efficient innovative packaging mounts the low profile fuel tank under the front seats, which frees up the underfloor space beneath the rear seats. This enables the platform to accommodate Honda’s Magic Seat system, also available on the Honda Jazz.

The Magic Seat system allows each of the 60:40 split second-row seats to adopt numerous configurations to maximise the people and load carrying versatility of the cavernous interior. The Magic Seat system can adopt one of three ‘modes’ from the standard seating position.

Utility mode – the rear seat back folds forward as the seat base itself lowers into the rear passenger footwell, creating a maximum 1,845 mm-long flat floor.

Tall mode – the front of the rear seat base rises up and back and is locked in a vertical position to leave a cargo height of 1,240 mm from floor to ceiling, allowing tall objects to be placed behind the front seats.

Long mode – the front passenger seat back folds back to a horizontal position, while the rear seat back folds forward, forming a ‘tunnel’ to accommodate items up to 2,445 mm long.

Occupants will appreciate the class-leading cabin space, with headroom, legroom and shoulder room in the front and rear so generous that they match the dimensions more commonly found in larger vehicles.

The cargo bay also offers impressive space with a capacity of up to 470* litres with the rear seats upright, increasing to up to 1,103* litres with the rear seats folded. The HR-V’s wide tailgate opening (1,180 mm) and low loading height (650 mm) ensure that the capacious cargo space is easily accessible.

Travelling long distances in the HR-V is a comfortable and fatigue-free experience for the driver and passengers thanks to Honda engineers’ determination to provide this model with class-best levels of refinement. Furthermore, the 2019 HR-V sees the introduction of redesigned seats for the driver and front passenger, which incorporate changes to the seat cushion and back rest, providing enhanced overall support – especially for the shoulder area.

* Actual cargo capacity in litres varies dependent on model engine and grade. Please refer to technical spec data for futher details.

5. Refined interior design with high quality materials

Sophisticated cabin ambience with high quality, soft-touch materials
Honda Connect delivers convenience and connectivity on the road
Broad range of functions presented on seven-inch touchscreen
Large panoramic tilt-and-slide glass sunroof unique in class

The HR-V’s interior marries divergent themes, striving to achieve spaciousness, reassuring solidity and – for the driver – a cockpit with the wraparound feel of a coupé.

The expansive, airy cabin is fitted with high quality, soft-touch surfaces, subtly accented with brushed chrome highlights and sophisticated stitching lines to provide a premium ambience. The dashboard design combines a solid feel with premium detailing, including a piano-black feature panel that emphasises the sense of quality, class and refinement.

For the 2019 HR-V, new seats for the driver and front passenger provide enhanced support in the seat cushion and back rest. Standard fabric upholstery is now fashioned from higher-quality material, while higher grade models feature a combination of fabric and leather with double stitching for a more appealing finish. Top-grade cars have a full leather interior as standard (KE ONLY).

Inside the dedicated HR-V Sport model, the seats are trimmed in a unique two-tone black fabric and dark red leather combination, and it also features gloss black trim finishes for the lower dashboard and centre console panels. Black roof lining adds to the dynamic interior of the model,

Facing the driver, a three-dial instrument binnacle features ‘floating’ illumination rings and Honda’s ECO Assist function, which changes the backlight colour of the speedometer from white to green during fuel-efficient driving.

Facing the front seat passenger, a ‘wide flow’ air outlet incorporates three adjustable air vents across the dashboard, resulting in a comfortable airflow for all passengers. The air flow volume settings are optimised to deliver: high volume for the outlet nearest the side window; low volume for the centre outlet; and medium volume for the air outlet closest to the centre panel.

The sense of spaciousness is amplified on top-grade models in the new HR-V line-up by the availability of a unique-in-class opening panoramic glass sunroof. With one-touch opening tilt and slide operation, the 846 mm-long panoramic sunroof features a sliding sunshade that opens automatically with the roof and can be closed manually to block sunlight. The front section – which tilts to a height of 27.5 mm at its rear – measures 475 mm in length.

Honda’s ‘Smart Touch Interior’ enables operation of frequent functions with the smallest movement and effort. These functions include: Electric Park Brake, Touch Panel Climate Control and One-Touch Indicators.

Advanced infotainment system

Seamless connectivity and infotainment is provided in the HR-V by the Honda Connect system, first seen in Europe on the 2015 CR-V. It is fitted as standard on the mid and upper grade HR-V, and as an option on the base model.

Easy and intuitive to use, the system is accessed through a seven-inch touchscreen in the centre of the dash. The display can be customised to suit individual preferences, with two different ‘skins‘ to choose from, allowing users to make the system their own. Colour-coded icons ensure navigating through menus is quick and simple.

The Honda Connect system comes with pre-installed apps, with others available for download from the Honda App Centre for owners to personalise their connected experience. The pre-installed ‘Aha’ app allows effortless access to thousands of audio stations – spanning music, news, podcasts and audio books – as well as social media feeds and location-based services.

In addition, the Honda Connect system features extensive options for synchronising with smartphones and other personal multimedia devices: WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI,

Also available as standard higher grades Honda offers HR-V buyers a fully-integrated Garmin satellite navigation system.

HR-V base models are fitted as standard with a five-inch LCD colour display screen in the centre of the dashboard and a 160-watt AM/FM/CD Audio system with four speakers. Mid and upper grade models are fitted with a 180-watt six-speaker audio system.

Enhanced interior refinement

The HR-V’s highly efficient acoustic insulation package has been improved for 2019 by adding greater levels of insulating material around the car, including around the front bulkhead and wheel arches, the boot structure, and both front and rear door panels. It incorporates top quality, non-woven underlay and sound-absorbing carpets of a type usually found only in high-grade premium vehicles. Furthermore, the floor carpet, underfloor cover and dashboard acoustic pad inserts all contribute to achieving a refined and relaxing atmosphere throughout the cabin. At a constant speed of 100 km/h, occupants experience a whisper-quiet 65 dB of cabin noise.

Depending on model grade, the new HR-V is also be equipped with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) for the first time. ANC is designed to reduce low-frequency noise in the interior by monitoring for such noises using two in-cabin microphones, and then cancelling them out with precisely-timed ‘reverse phase’ audio signals through the speakers.

On the Sport model with manual transmission Active Sound Control is applied. Active Sound Control has the same ability as Active Noise Cancellation and also operates throughout the rest of the engines speed range, where it can tune the sound heard when accelerating.

6. Compehensive suite of advanced safety features

Every HR-V has City-Brake Active System to help avoid low-speed accidents
Advanced Driver Assist System features five active safety aids

Front seats feature anti-whiplash head restraints to minimise injury

Incorporates Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering body design

As with all new Honda vehicles sold in Europe, the HR-V is fitted with a wide range of active and passive safety technologies designed to make driving both easier and safer, while maximising occupant and pedestrian protection.

Every HR-V sold in Europe will be equipped with Honda’s City-Brake Active System. Specifically designed to help avoid or mitigate low speed accidents, the system uses laser radar technology to scan the road ahead, automatically applying the brakes if an imminent risk of collision is detected. The system is designed to operate at speeds below 32 km/h (20 mph). If the system identifies a risk of collision then pre-braking as well as audible and visual warning will occur, eventually followed by full autonomous braking to bring the car to a stop.

Advanced Driver Assist System

Mid and upper grade models will feature Honda’s Advanced Driver Assist System, which uses radar sensors, plus forward and rear facing cameras, as standard. This comprehensive suite of active safety technologies includes: Forward Collision Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limiter, Lane Departure Warning and High-beam Support System.

Forward Collision Warning

Forward Collision Warning detects the risk of collision by recognising the vehicle (car or truck) directly in front, using the multi-purpose camera. The system operates when the car is at a speed of 15 km/h (9 mph) and above. On detecting the risk of collision, it will offer visual and audible warnings. The warning distance can be adjusted to the driver’s preferences and the system can be turned off by the driver.

Traffic Sign Recognition

Traffic Sign Recognition uses the multi-purpose camera to detect road signs whenever the vehicle is moving forward. The system automatically recognises and displays the signs in the instrument binnacle screen once the vehicle has passed the sign.

The system is designed to detect circular road signs displaying speed limits and ‘No Passing’ information. Two road signs can be displayed at any one time – the right side of the display only shows speed limit signs while the left shows ‘No Passing’ signs and speed limits with additional information; such as weather conditions, for example.

Intelligent Speed Limiter

Intelligent Speed Limiter combines two otherwise independent safety systems – Adjustable Speed Limiter and Traffic Sign Recognition system – resulting in an advanced safety assistance feature. The Adjustable Speed Limiter system –standard on every Honda car on sale in Europe – regulates the maximum speed of the vehicle at a level set by the driver.

With Intelligent Speed Limiter activated, the maximum speed of the vehicle is automatically determined by the prevailing legal speed limit detected by the Traffic Sign Recognition system. When the vehicle passes a sign indicating a lower speed limit, the vehicle will gently and automatically slow, through a reduction in power, to a maximum speed that does not exceed the speed limit. An alert sounds and the displayed speed limit blinks if the vehicle speed exceeds the limit by 3 km/h (2 mph) or more. The vehicle’s maximum speed – regardless of the accelerator input by the driver – will not exceed this limit. When the vehicle passes a sign indicating a higher speed limit, it will allow the driver to accelerate until the vehicle reaches the new maximum permitted speed, at which point it will prevent the vehicle from exceeding the new speed limit. The system can be turned off by the driver at any time.

Lane Departure Warning

Lane Departure Warning uses the multi-purpose camera to track lane markings on the road. If the car deviates from its current lane without indicating, Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver with audible and visual warnings. The system can be turned off by the driver at any time.

High Beam Support System

High Beam Support System works at speeds of more than 40 km/h (25 mph) to switch High Beam head lights on or off automatically depending on oncoming or preceding vehicles (cars, trucks and motorcycles), bicycles and environmental brightness. The system can be turned off by the driver at any time.

Passive safety engineered into the structure

The HR-V platform incorporates Honda’s exclusive ACE™ (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) body design, which employs a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly. This design helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger cell in the event of an impact, giving superior front, side and rear crash-worthiness.

ACE™ also helps minimise the potential for under-ride or over-ride situations that can happen during head-on or offset frontal impacts with a larger or smaller vehicle.

Every new HR-V sold in Europe is equipped with a total of eight airbags, maximising occupant protection. The front, side and full-length curtain airbags are all advanced ‘intelligent’ designs and are triggered only when absolutely necessary. The front seat head restraints are designed to reduce the effects of whiplash injury.

Honda to exhibit for the first time at Milan Design Week
The “Honda experience - Casa Connessa Tortona“ will offer visitors a unique insight into the design concept of the Honda e Prototype, Honda’s first battery electric vehicle for Europe
Honda announces furniture curation of Casa Connessa Tortona by Italian-based Danord
Photography exhibition inspired by Honda e Prototype design language also announced, featuring acclaimed Italian photographers

Honda opened the doors on its exhibit at Milan Design Week 2019, the first time the brand has had a significant presence at the world’s largest design exhibition. Honda’s e Prototype, fresh from its world premiere at 2019 Geneva Motor Show will be the centrepiece of the “Honda experience - Casa Connessa Tortona“.

“Honda experience - Casa Connessa Tortona“

Based in the Tortona design district of Milan, Honda has used high-end fashion boutique “Alysi - The Garden House” as the base to create its experience.

On entry, visitors are greeted by an immersive visual and auditory experience designed to represent the shift from the urban environment to a calming space. Walking through the entrance into the main space, the Honda e Prototype is presented under a glass roof, leaving the car open to shifting natural light.

At the centre of the venue sits an architectural tree sculpture, created from natural materials. The sculpture acts as a symbol of the seamless link between the outside environment and inside life that inspired the design language of the Honda e Prototype.

Furniture and photography collaborations

Elsewhere, Honda has worked together with a team of Italian photographers to create an exhibition inspired by the design language of the Honda e Prototype. The team lead by Sara Mautone use projection techniques to display their work.

The environment is completed by a diorama designed to represent the ‘seamless living’ style of the Honda e Prototype interior. Italian furniture company Danord curated pieces for this area. Profile: Danord

Danord is born of a need.

The need to create personalized spaces through the combination of sometimes unique items, different periods and backgrounds.

Furniture belonging to the history of Scandinavian design flanked by a careful research of new production objects, which interact with each other in a continuous relationship between the new and the original.

The intent of Francesca Gatti, founder of Danord, is not to reconstruct the tradition but to reinterpret, with the sensitivity of today, that of yesterday.

Danord is an “ideal space”, free from any design scheme and criterion. A place where you can find inspiration to create a tailor-made housing unit, just as you desire.

For Milan Design Week 2019, in collaboration with Honda, Danord will be curating the furniture within our space to demonstrate the main focus of the Honda e prototype – seamless living and a connected lifestyle.

Profile: Andrea Massari

I was born in Rome, but I’ve spent my childhood in Sao Paulo, Brazil … it was wonderfull!

Here comes two of me… the first one, the painter, is going round and round just to catch everything possible about art and design, charmed by some great creators like Mirò, Matisse, Picasso, Lichtenstein and many others; but the second one is tainted by a lot of great photographers such as Sieff or Avedon that influenced my own creative expression.

Anyway nature, sun and simplicity are most influential elements in my work, ’cause I want to show the side so pure and strange of what I see. Probably at first sight my work could appear to be inspired by different trends or tendencies but this isn’t a treacherous thing, only an apparent dualism.

So, while applying colours to paper nourishes a thick, bright, ironic, generous polymorphism, the photographic eye tends to fix the stream of private, plain, elegant nuances that can in any case reproduce the mutability and warmth of daylight.

I live and work in New York and Milan.

‘Electric Vision’ strategy will see all Honda cars electrified by 2025

Honda is progressing its 'Electric Vision' for Europe by confirming the name of its first fully electric urban vehicle – the ‘Honda e’ – and by announcing that the next-generation Jazz will be available with a hybrid powertrain featuring the brand's Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) technology.

Honda’s Electric Vision, renewed and emboldened at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, is for 100% of the brand’s European sales to feature electrified powertrains by 2025. The Honda e, presented as a production prototype in Geneva, is Honda's first model to benefit from a dedicated EV platform and takes a bold step with its design and technology. The compact electric car offers trademark Honda driving dynamics, aided by the sporty rear-wheel drive format and advanced electric powertrain.

The Honda e has already received over 22,000 expressions of interest across Europe, and customers can visit their national Honda website for more information.

The i-MMD hybrid system that will be available with the next generation of the popular Jazz hatchback has already won widespread acclaim across Europe for delivering high-levels of real-world efficiency and refinement in the new CR-V Hybrid. Ahead of its 2025 electrification goal, Honda will expand the application of its i-MMD dual-motor hybrid system, with the introduction into smaller segment cars an important first step.

The next-generation Jazz will make its international premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year.
