Acura is looking to Subaru for inspiration for its latest bid at a brand overhaul.
Facing lukewarm reception to many of its recently introduced products, Acura is looking for something to differentiate itself from other premium manufacturers.
Acura executive Koichi Fukuo told Automotive News, "The key is [all-wheel drive]. As a premium brand, we need something different from the competition."
Many of Acura's current models are available with some form of all-wheel drive, whether it's the basic system offered on the MDX crossover, or variants of its praised Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) available in its TLX and RLX flagship sedan.
Acura's upcoming NSX replacement will feature an advanced SH-AWD system and could serve as a showcase for the technology if the company chooses to pursue it as a centerpiece of its overhaul.
Acura would not be the first premium brand to put all-wheel drive at the center of its product strategy. Audi has found success in marketing its quattro all-wheel drive tech to set itself apart in the ultra-competitive luxury segment.
