Exceptional blend of powerful performance and efficiency

Proven hybrid powertrain delivers exceptional blend of strong driving performance while retaining impressive fuel economy
ZR-V features the latest iteration of 2.0-litre direct-injection Atkinson engine and two motors to deliver torque comparable to a 3.0-litre ICE
Refined power delivery accentuated through linear step-change to deliver enjoyable, punchy acceleration at any speed

The latest model to be built around Honda’s acclaimed e:HEV hybrid technology, the ZR-V features an upgraded version of the twin electric motor system. As found in the Civic e:HEV, the powertrain now produces a total power output of 135 kW and 315 Nm of torque, providing acceleration from a standstill to 62 mph / 100 km/h from just 7.8 seconds.

Despite the strong performance, the ZR-V also offers genuine real-world efficiency, where the updated e:HEV produces CO2 emissions from 130 g/km (WLTP) and achieves fuel economy from just  5.7 L/100km (WLTP combined).

The full-hybrid powertrain combines a power-dense lithium-ion battery and two compact, powerful electric motors with a newly developed 2.0-litre direct-injection Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, shifting without notice between EV, Hybrid and Engine Drive with no input from the driver.

When driving in an urban environment the vehicle mostly runs in EV Drive, producing zero emissions whilst utilising the seamless and responsive traits of electric driving. When the driver requires stronger acceleration, the car will switch to Hybrid Drive to propel the wheels via the powerful electric motor, with the internal combustion engine generating the required electric power.

At constant high speeds, such as on the motorway, the system will shift to Engine Drive, and is directly and efficiently powered by the petrol engine with minimum losses and assisted by the electric motor when necessary. When the required drive energy increases towards top speed, the system switches back to Hybrid Drive to unleash the full output of the electric motor.

In all drive modes, brake and deceleration energy is recuperated to improve the overall efficiency, resulting in remarkably low fuel consumption – particularly in stop and go traffic. Thanks to the high rigidity of the crankshaft and the secondary balancer shaft, the engine has lower vibrations over the entire speed range than in previous generations of the e:HEV system, enabling a smooth drive in every mode.

The evolution of Honda’s hybrid technology over 20 years has resulted in a sophisticated yet compact and efficient power unit that combines the responsiveness and power of an electric motor with the long-range refinement of a petrol engine to impress in both urban and rural driving. It not only provides instant response when accelerating at low speeds but also at high speeds on the motorway.

Linear shift control correlates engine sound to engine acceleration G for a more reassuring acceleration feel, which is a major evolution from Honda’s previous hybrid vehicles.

Using a drive selector, users can seamlessly switch between four drive modes: ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’, ‘Eco’ and ‘Snow’. Sport mode sharpens throttle response and improves performance, while Eco adjusts throttle response to improve fuel efficiency. The new Snow mode tailors throttle response characteristics to suit driving on low friction surfaces to reduce the burden on drivers in difficult conditions.

Refined engine offers class-leading thermal efficiency and emissions levels

Direct injection technology enables the fuel to be injected into the engine multiple times during a simple combustion phase, known as a multistage injection, which reduces emissions over a wide operating range. Optimised for faster and more efficient combustion and greater torque, the newly refined engine structure and combustion concept also helps the new ZR-V to cope with a higher compression ratio, thanks to improved exhaust port cooling performance and together with the Atkinson combustion cycle achieves an industry leading thermal efficiency of 41%.

Honda engineers developed the new engine to meet future emissions limits, using a low temperature activating catalyst, optimised intake port shapes for high tumble air flow and sodium filled valves, all of which help to improve both emissions and fuel economy.

The latest iteration of Honda’s Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) is positioned beneath the rear cargo area to optimize the overall vehicle packaging thanks to its compact dimensions and reduced weight. A new Power Control Unit (PCU), located under the bonnet to save space, controls the high voltage electric power of the hybrid system.

The increase in power density of the PCU and energy density of the IPU allows the electric motor to take more of the load in a greater range of driving scenarios. In turn, this enables the engine to run at a lower operating speed, reducing fuel consumption and allowing greater levels of torque at higher speeds.

Responsive handling and a refined ride for outstanding driveability

Multi-link suspension and high-tensile structural materials result in predictable and confidence-inspiring steering
Reduced friction in the front suspension and steering system for liner line traceability and steer feel
Multi-link rear suspension and compliance bushings with optimized characteristics for excellent road holding

The all-new ZR-V inspires confidence behind the wheel, delivering impressive levels of grip and control in all driving situations and road conditions, from urban areas where responsive acceleration is required, to fast winding country routes where vehicle stability is key. With a chassis that is both light and rigid, plus a responsive hybrid powertrain, Honda’s latest SUV delivers driving characteristics more akin to a sporty hatchbacks.

The frame of the ZR-V is central to both the assured style and stance of the car, as well as the dynamic behaviour. Sitting 59mm lower than the CR-V (on 18” tyres) and 50mm wider than the HR-V, the low and wide appearance gives an impressive footprint and solid base on which to build a dynamic SUV.

At the front is a MacPherson strut arrangement mounted to a lightweight aluminium front subframe with an efficient truss and rib structure that provides rigidity and stability.

A tempering process heat treats the lower ball joints on the front suspension to reduce the surface pressure between the ball and resin ball seat. Additional friction-reducing measures include the use of a low-friction seat for the front damper mount bearings and optimizing the axes of the springs and dampers.

Multilink rear suspension and a floating subframe work together to deliver predictable and confidence-inspiring steering, while the lightweight subframe and optimised bushes deliver premium NVH management. Combined with a steering system that features a dual-pinion assist electric power steering (EPS) with feedback control, and low-friction ball joints in the chassis set up, steering is effortless but with exceptional feedback, boosting driver confidence and comfort at any speed. Strategic use of ultra-high-tensile materials and structural adhesive offer additional levels of chassis rigidity to help deliver assured handling when cornering at speed, by significantly reducing body roll.

Dual-pinion assist electronic power steering (EPS) which features a honed steering column bearing to reduce steering friction and improve steering feel. In addition, the EPS has been tuned to provide excellent feedback and improved straight-line stability. A non-contact torque sensor measures the driver's steering effort, and an ECU determines how much electric motor assist to add, with the result being a seamless, natural steering feel.

Feedback control also was added to the EPS, enabling more precise control when unwinding the steering to return to a straight line. This results in smooth steering feel with strong resistance to ride disturbances, and excellent straight-line stability for driver peace of mind.

Advanced suite of Honda SENSING technologies for optimum safety

Impressive all-round collision performance thanks to a combination of high strength materials
The latest suite of Honda’s SENSING driver assist technologies provide next-generation active safety
Wide-view camera and high-speed image processing chip enhance collision detection scope and accuracy

Road safety has long been of paramount importance to Honda, and the all-new ZR-V is the latest vehicle to feature the company’s advanced suite of Honda SENSING technologies as standard. Combined with an extensive airbag system and impressive all-round collision performance, Honda’s latest SUV offers high levels of safety for all occupants.

A combination of soft and rigid structural components, including a frame made of high tensile strength steel, form part of a body that provides exceptional front, rear and side collision protection. Strategic placement of high-tensile steels against softer steel ensures deformation paths direct energy away from occupants in the event of an accident.

The complex frame also features Honda’s ACE™ technology. Standing for Advanced Compatibility Engineering™, ACE™ utilises a network of front frame structures to absorb and deflect the energy from a frontal collision. This helps reduce the force transferred to the cabin and more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles involved.

There are 10 airbags, including a front centre airbag that prevents collisions between the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact, and a knee airbag for front occupants. All airbags within the ZR-V incorporate Honda’s i-SRS technology, which creates uniform pressure around the bag more quickly than in a conventional system.

To ensure accurate and responsive active safety functionality, the ZR-V uses Honda’s latest camera and sonar technology. The front system features a wide-angle lens with an effective horizontal viewing angle of 100 degrees, which combines with a high-speed image processing chip to enhance the detection accuracy of objects for the Collision Mitigation Braking System and other applications.

Safety as standard

Honda SENSING is among the most comprehensive safety technology packages in its class, using camera information in conjunction with a host of high-tech sensors, to warn and assist the driver in potentially dangerous scenarios.

The Collision Mitigation Braking System, which helps bring the car to a stop if the system determines that a collision with a vehicle detected in front is unavoidable. A warning sound, and if necessary, brake pressure is automatically applied.

The Road Departure Mitigation System is the default safety system within the ZR-V. The always active system alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use. This is complimented by Honda’s Lane Keep Assist System, which reduces the driver burden whilst behind the wheel and ensures the vehicle maintains proper position by gently applying steering inputs to ensure the ZR-V doesn’t depart from its identified detected lane.

Honda’s latest Traffic Jam Assist technology is also available, reducing the driver’s workload in low speed congested traffic by helping to keep the vehicle in its lane from 0 km/h. When traffic congestion clears, the car seamlessly switches to the Lane Keeping Assist System from 72 km/h – a lower speed than conventional systems.

The recently updated Traffic Sign Recognition System now detects and automatically recognises over 90% of road signs and displays them on the instrument binnacle behind the steering wheel. For example, the system can quickly notify the driver when they are approaching or passing a specific road sign, such as speed limits or any restrictions. The system also provides a pre-notification of signs to inform the driver as soon as possible and help them prepare sooner for junctions.

Adaptive Driving Beam automatically switches from high beam to low beam when an oncoming vehicle, or a vehicle in front, is detected, for the safety of both drivers. The Auto High-Beam Headlights are activated through the front sensor, which automatically switches the headlights when driving at night or in poor conditions such as fog.

The Driver Attention Monitor feature helps drivers recognise when their attention to the road is becoming diminished, enhancing their awareness on long journeys. The system uses an angle sensor to measure the degree of steering-wheel corrections by the driver to maintain a proper lane position. If it senses unusual and constant correction activity, the system will notify the driver to take a break. The Driver Attention Monitor remains active in the background and users can customise the warnings via the settings menu available from the display audio home screen.

With the rear seats up, the e:Ny1 has a maximum boot capacity of 361 litres; which increases to 801 litres to the window line when the rear seats are folded down, and up to 1,176 litres when loaded to the roof.

Newly-developed HMI and intelligent user-focused technology connects owners to their car and the world

Large central touchscreen and digital instrument binnacle offer a new digital interface experience for Honda customers
Simple integration of third-party apps provides simple and effective connectivity
Honda Connect service provides everyday vehicle charging support, both in-car and when away from the vehicle

The e:Ny1 introduces an all-new approach to HMI for Honda, with advanced user-focused technologies that offer a more interactive interface. Central to this enhanced experience are the new 15.1-inch centre console touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital instrument binnacle. Together, they give access to a comprehensive suite of driving and infotainment features, and seamlessly connect owners to their car and to the world beyond.

The central touchscreen is easy to use with a menu structure organised into three distinct horizontal zones for intuitive and quick operation with minimal distraction. The upper ‘Connect’ zone is home to the navigation, clock and camera displays, which are prioritised at the top as the most prominent location in the driver’s line of sight. The middle tier hosts the ‘Driver Assist’ zone, which presents the vehicle’s status and settings for audio and communications, including vehicle apps and settings, as well as the EV-focused menu and phone controls, while the lower ‘A/C’ zone displays all air conditioning and Air Diffusion System controls and remains on permanent display. Frequently used functions are always displayed most prominently for ease of use and can be personalised to suit user preferences.

The system enables simple integration of third-party apps, including wireless Apple Car Play and wired Android Auto, while in-car Wi-Fi allows all occupants to stay connected on the move. Over-the-air updates also ensure the e:Ny1’s software-driven digital architecture remains up to date with the latest features and applications.

Charging support

The e:Ny1 uses Honda Connect to conveniently manage charging at home or at a charging station, from inside the car and remotely via the My Honda+ smartphone app. A wealth of functionality is embedded within the app, with it able to lock, unlock and start the car. Climate control can be adjusted and activated prior to departure times or at a scheduled start time. The app also allows users to keep track of their journeys, view their car’s location and send their destination to friends and family. Further useful information is displayed in the app, including charge remaining, charging status, and a charging timer.

Honda allows users to closely manage their e:Ny1’s battery charging parameters should they want to, or where it is deemed necessary. In order to adapt to different charging environments and avoid charging failure due to fluctuations in supply or power surges, Honda Connect allows users to set the maximum charging current depending on infrastructure for both ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ settings. Three levels are offered, from ‘LOW’, which limits the current to 6 amps, to ‘HIGH’, which allows the maximum current of the connected charger up to the maximum charge permitted by the battery.

This functionality allows the user to select the maximum current for AC charging to prevent it tripping the breaker in locations where a dedicated power breaker for AC chargers is not used.

Powertrain and chassis engineered to deliver dynamic performance, with exceptional comfort and quietness

    Based on Honda’s e:N Architecture F high-performance FWD platform
High-capacity battery enables flexible and consistent rapid charging
New model has been engineered to suit all European driving conditions and environments

The e:Ny1’s chassis and powertrain have been engineered to deliver a fun and confidence-inspiring driving experience that combines Honda’s spirit of performance and the benefits of electric propulsion. Key to this is the first European application of Honda’s e:N Architecture F high-performance platform.

A part of the brand’s global electrification strategy, the e:N Architecture is a modular approach to electric vehicle (EV) design. The fundamental ideology behind it is that the common modular components are supported by an appropriate, high-rigidity core body structure for highly dynamic performance. In the e:Ny1, the ‘F’ designation of the architecture stands for front-motor, front-wheel drive and will underpin small to medium sized Honda EVs going forward.

Other platforms within the global portfolio will also be offered with all-, and rear-wheel drive options, all built around the same principles of a central, high-density, high-efficiency battery paired with a compact high-power drive motor, or motors for AWD applications.

For application on the F platform, the cleverly packaged three-in-one motor, which houses the power drive unit, electric motor and transmission, has a combined weight of just 77.4kg (with oil) over the front axle. The high performance 150 kW motor boasts exceptional 92% efficiency, delivering up to 310 Nm of torque (2,788 Nm at the wheels), propelling the car from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and to a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Advanced thermal management is achieved through a water-cooled circuit, which ensures consistent power delivery without overheating.

This dynamic set up underpins a lightweight yet rigid body frame that is constructed from a blend of high-tensile steels with 47% (by weight) of the model’s body made of these materials. Their strategic application around the vehicle has resulted in high torsional rigidity and low mass, with the e:Ny1 over 100kg lighter than some European rivals.

When compared to the HR-V, the e:Ny1 features additional high-tensile bracing to the floor and roof sections, as well as around the front wheel wells, providing a more solid base from which to build a dynamic electric vehicle.

Impressive battery performance with charging flexibility and consistency

The compact 68.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, located under the floor of the e:Ny1, provides a range of up to 412 km (WLTP), with its fast-charging capability allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 45 minutes using a DC rapid charger and CCS connector. This method also allows 100km of range to be added in just 11 minutes. When using a standard domestic AC charger, 10-80% of total charging capacity can be achieved in six hours.

With integrated water-cooling, the high-density battery consists of 195Ah cells, located in the centre of the e:Ny1 underfloor. This layout contributes to a low centre of gravity and concentrated mass for improved road holding, as well as to overall aerodynamic performance without the need for additional external parts.

While battery capacity is similar to class leaders, Honda’s latest EV stands out from its competitors for its higher rate of charging consistency as, while some competitors offer a greater maximum rate of charge, this level is rarely achieved due to fluctuations in charging rates at different stages of the battery charging cycle.

The e:Ny1 has a specifically developed recharging system that permits a sustained higher charge rate over its rivals. Whilst some manufacturers have prioritised headline rapid charge figures, the e:Ny1 is able to maintain a higher average rate for more of the charging process. The linear, higher charge rate is maintained for well over half of the charge, with very little drop off towards full capacity.

This approach is beneficial to customers as it helps prevent premature battery deterioration and helps maintain range over the vehicle’s lifespan. Charge power and charging strategy are two fundamental elements that significantly influence battery life span. Honda’s approach to this has therefore been to create a healthy balance between user practicality and battery durability via sophisticated energy management and thermal control systems.

Dynamic handling defined by Honda’s performance spirit

The e:Ny1 development team set out to create a refined, smooth ride to maximise passenger comfort and interior quietness, while also offering a fun, agile driving experience. The goal was to create a fully electric SUV that is dynamically optimised for all European use cases and a broad range of road surfaces, with engaging handling and sure-footed stability that would inspire confidence among customers switching from combustion-engine vehicles.

Honda’s dynamic stability control ensures steering feel is smooth and linear, providing enough feedback to allow drivers to sense the available traction and adapt their inputs accordingly. Steering is light and agile at low speeds, with a firmer feel when travelling faster – a development specifically for the European version of e:Ny1.

For the benefit of occupants and to minimise motion sickness, Honda’s newest electric model is engineered to deliver smooth and comfortable acceleration and deceleration, without diminishing the appeal of the powerful and responsive acceleration typical of EVs.

The relaxing interior ambience is maintained on the move thanks in part to a major focus on reducing cabin noise intrusion to levels achieved by vehicles in the class above. Road noise in the low- to mid-range frequencies is significantly reduced thanks to Honda’s unique resonator wheel application, an additional dynamic damper on the H-beam, and the low sub-frame weight. These are complemented by strategically placed cabin insulation that reduces high frequency noise and vibration.

Three dedicated pre-set driving modes, Sport, Normal and Econ Drive, enable drivers to manually adjust the car’s performance settings to balance driving characteristics and efficiency. Econ mode reduces throttle response, prioritising energy conservation by adjusting the air conditioning, heated seats, and heated steering wheel to maintain the driver’s perceived temperature for a more economical drive. In contrast, Sport mode delivers a more exhilarating experience with highly responsive acceleration, while normal mode provides an optimal balance of performance and full cabin comfort.

Advanced passive and active safety technology provides exceptional protection and driver support

Latest Honda SENSING suite delivers comprehensive active safety
Suite of exterior cameras provide omnidirectional protection
Parking Pilot covers six variations of parking and exit scenarios

The e:Ny1 becomes the latest model to feature the Honda SENSING suite of active safety technologies as standard, employing the brand’s latest camera and sonar technology.

The front camera system features a wide-angle camera with an effective horizontal viewing angle of 100 degrees, which combines with a high-speed image processing chip to enhance the detection accuracy of objects for the Collision Mitigation Braking System and other active safety systems. Another camera is positioned at the rear of the vehicle, and one on each door mirror, resulting in 360-degree coverage for Advance grades.

Supporting the camera-based system are twelve sonar sensors located around the car – four on each of the front and rear bumpers, and two on either side – which can detect objects such as buildings and other vehicles with a high level of accuracy. The camera and sonar systems work in unison to improve overall safety, allowing the e:Ny1 to accurately identify road markings and verges with no lines, as well as motorcycles, cyclists and other vehicles.

A combination of soft and rigid structural components, including high tensile strength steel, form part of a strong body that provides exceptional front, rear and side collision protection by dissipating energy away from the cabin in the unfortunate event of an accident. This crash safety protection strategy also maximises safety for high-voltage electrical components, which are automatically shut down in the event of a collision.

Honda SENSING features

Honda SENSING is among the industry’s most comprehensive safety technology packages. It uses a combination of data from the various camera, radar and sonar sensors to warn and assist the driver in potentially dangerous scenarios.

Honda’s Road Departure Mitigation System alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use. Using the Lane Keeping Assist System, the vehicle can automatically apply mild steering torque to assist the driver in maintaining proper lane position and/or apply the brakes to slow the e:Ny1’s departure from a detected lane.

The vehicle is also equipped with the latest Traffic Jam Assist technology. This reduces the driver’s workload in low-speed traffic by helping to keep the vehicle in its lane, starting from 0 km/h. When congestion clears, the car seamlessly switches to the Lane Keeping Assist System from 60 km/h, a lower speed than conventional systems.

In addition, the Traffic Sign Recognition System recognises road signs and displays them on the instrument binnacle. The system also provides a pre-notification of signs to help the driver prepare for junctions or upcoming changes in the speed limit, while also working with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), using one-touch speed adjustment, to match the prevailing speed limit.

The Driver Attention Monitor alerts drivers when it detects that their attention to the road is diminished. The system uses an angle sensor to measure the degree of steering-wheel corrections by the driver in maintaining a proper lane position. If it senses unusual and constant correction activity, the system will notify the driver to take a break.

Introduction: The sixth generation Honda CR-V – the ultimate all-round family vehicle

Every aspect of the all-new CR-V has been enhanced, offering the perfect blend of sportiness, practicality, and refinement
Flagship SUV is offered as all-wheel drive hybrid or front wheel drive plug-in hybrid
CR-V is the first Honda vehicle in Europe to offer Honda SENSING 360 – the company’s latest omnidirectional safety and driver assist system

The sixth generation of the Honda CR-V, the company’s best-selling model globally, debuts with a bolder, more confident appearance and exceptional levels of practicality, safety, connectivity, and comfort.

The popular C-segment SUV will be offered with the choice of either a full hybrid (e:HEV) powertrain or, for the first-time on a European Honda, a plug-in hybrid (e:PHEV) option, delivering dynamic performance and efficiency across the range. This expanded powertrain line up represents Honda’s multi-pathway approach to electrification and offers customers a broad range of products.

The familiar e:HEV powertrain has been revised and updated for the new CR-V, and now features a more energy-dense, downsized battery and more efficient motor, whilst the all-new e:PHEV, with its larger battery pack, offers up to 82km (51 miles) in all-electric range.

Engineers have refined every aspect of the latest model with a focus on the advanced and sporty values of the Honda brand, while aiming to make the ultimate all-round SUV. Greater sophistication of driver aids, active safety, and connected technologies, as well as the application of high-quality materials throughout the cabin, all serve to elevate the vehicle proposition.

Segment-leading levels of active safety have been achieved thanks to the first European application of Honda SENSING 360, the company’s comprehensive omnidirectional safety and driver assist system, which removes blind spots around the vehicle and further contributes to collision avoidance.

The all-new CR-V retains its familiar silhouette, but with a design evolution that increases its road presence. This starts with the more aggressive, defined styling at the front, with a large aperture and stylized grille opening, where e:HEV and e:PHEV variants are distinguished by their own designs.

At the rear, the vertical brake light and turn signal combination is a smart evolution of the model’s instantly recognisable taillight design, with the purposeful LED lighting creating a new, evolved light signature at the rear of the vehicle.

Now with a longer wheelbase and wider stance, the CR-V offers spaciousness comparable to that of a D-segment SUV. Not only providing rear seat passengers with best-in-class leg room, the model’s larger proportions also create more boot space and increase stability at higher speeds.

“The all-new CR-V builds on everything this iconic model stands for – progressive design, a premium cabin, class-leading levels of practicality and comfort, and efficient and responsive performance,” says Tom Gardner, Senior Vice President, Honda Motor Europe. “This latest iteration is the ultimate SUV, offering a unique and dynamic product that perfectly suits the current demands of the European market.”

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains: The perfect blend of powerful driving performance and fuel efficiency

Honda launches first plug-in hybrid for Europe with 82km of EV range
Alongside traditional hybrid powertrain, both deliver strong driving performance, fuel economy, and overall refinement
    Highly efficient options offer from 6.7l /100km (37 mpg), and 134 g/km of Co2

Honda introduces its first plug-in hybrid powertrain in the European region – the e:PHEV – on the all-new CR-V, offering 82km (51 miles) of all-electric range. Alongside the upgraded hybrid e:HEV model, customers can expect an exhilarating driving experience with greatly improved environmental performance, responsive power delivery and reduced cabin noise.

Both options are built around the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder direct-injection Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, which has been revised for its application in the range topping SUV.

Improvements include a high-pressure, multistage direct-injection fuel system, while a low-temperature activating, high-performance catalyst improves environmental performance. The exhaust port surface area has also been expanded to further improve power output, while an all-urethane engine cover, noise and vibration insulation, and increased rigidity of the crankshaft, all help further improve interior refinement.

e:HEV

The e:HEV model will feature the most advanced iteration of Honda’s award-winning full-hybrid powertrain, with the petrol engine pairing seamlessly with a newly developed version of the company’s lightweight dual electric motor automatic transmission.

This latest iteration houses the propulsion motor and generator on a separate axis to allow for a 6.5% increase in torque to 335Nm without increasing design space. The former’s maximum motor speed has also been increased by 1,500rpm to 14,500rpm, resulting in a 7% higher top speed.

Further revisions to the transmission include the addition of a second gear ratio when the engine is directly attached to the wheels. Joining the existing high ratio is a new low ratio – both of which have been optimised for the widest range of driving scenarios possible, ultimately increasing both the drive force at low speeds in engine drive mode and the frequency of driving in this efficient direct drive mode.

Rounding out the revisions to the hybrid powertrain is the inclusion of more compact Power Control Unit (PCU) and Intelligent Power Unit (IPU). Both have been downsized and revised to retain a similar energy density and efficiency, whilst reducing overall weight and physical dimensions.

The boost in power compared to the previous CR-V means a more assured acceleration feel and improved responsiveness, with 0-100 km/h (62mph) acceleration taking from just nine seconds for 2WD models and 9.4 seconds for AWD variants, before heading on to a top speed of 194km/h (121 mph) for 2WD, and 187 km/h (116 mph) for AWD models.

Despite the gains in performance, the e:HEV system also offers increased levels of efficiency and a reduction in emissions with Combined CO2 as little as 134g/KM and just 5.9l/100km (40mpg) for 2WD models, and 151g/KM and 6.7l/100km (35 mpg) for the AWD.

e:PHEV

Building on the proven basis of Honda’s e:HEV powertrain, the plug-in e:PHEV features a significantly larger 17.7kWh battery and a lightweight, high-output on-board electric charger. This increased electrical assistance means the engine speed can be kept much lower than before, further improving noise levels, refinement, and fuel efficiency at a variety of speeds. It also allows for an EV-only range of 82km (51 miles).

The increased electrical assistance offered by the plug-in hybrid system means that efficiency and consumption figures are just 18g/km and 0.8l/100km with a fully charged battery. When the battery is completely depleted, these figures will only increase marginally as the vehicle becomes a traditional hybrid, offering comparable performance to the 2WD e:HEV variant.

Clever packaging of the electrical components and having the battery mounted under the floor have allowed a boot capacity of 586 L. This has been made possible by optimizing the size of the unit’s cooling components, allowing for its physical dimensions to be reduced, while extensive use of aluminium in its casing and construction have also seen the unit weight drop, despite the increase in energy density.

The charging port is located on the lefthand front fender and is opened by pressing the charge port lid. For the e:PHEV, the charging control in conjunction with the battery warmer allows to better deal with colder environments and also significantly  improves recuperation capability at lower temperatures. When the battery temperature is 25 degrees, the latest CR-V achieves a 100% state of charge in just 2.5 hours, thanks to the 6.8 kW charger output.

As part of the connected services offered on the e:PHEV, users can select a range of preconditioning and climate functions when charging to further improve efficiencies, reduce costs and increase comfort in all weathers. These functions include a timer, as well as temperature and operation time settings, meaning CR-V owners can schedule charging for the cheapest and most convenient times, and have the car automatically adjusted to the desired temperature before they walk out of their house to the car.

New driver comfort aids and Honda SENSING functionality with class-leading collision safety performance

Safest CR-V yet thanks to new body construction and enhanced safety technologies
First vehicle to feature Honda SENSING 360, the company’s new omnidirectional safety and driver assist system
A further step towards Honda’s global aim of zero road fatalities involving Honda vehicles, offering safety for occupants and other road users

The all-new CR-V has been engineered to achieve industry-leading safety performance and is the first European vehicle to feature Honda’s most advanced suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Technologies (ADAS) – Honda SENSING 360.

Advanced driver assist and advanced accident-avoidance functions alleviate the burden of driving and, when coupled with a stronger body construction, offer industry leading active safety performance and outstanding protection in the event of an accident.

Strong foundations

The exceptionally strong, rigid, and stiff platform provides the foundation for exceptional safety performance, incorporating new structural components for improved front, rear and side collision protection. The e:PHEV features an additional floor cross member for increased protection of the IPU and passengers in the event of a side impact.

There are eleven airbags in this latest model, including a new front centre airbag to prevent a collision between the driver and front passenger, and a new knee airbag for both the driver and front passenger.

Honda SENSING 360

Honda SENSING 360 features a 100° forward facing camera, millimetre-wave radar, and four corner radars to offer a complete 360° view around the vehicle. Object recognition by image, via the CR-V’s updated front camera, and object detection by radar, allows the vehicle to identify road lines, verges, motorcycles, cyclists and other vehicles.

Everyday useful assistance

The fitment of the Honda SENSING 360 enables a range of new and updated features that provide an extra level of safety and convenience for the driver.

Included for the first time in any Honda model is Front Cross Traffic Warning, which reduces head-on collisions at intersections with poor visibility. The system informs the driver of vehicles to the left or right when moving off after a stop and when at low speed.

An advanced Traffic Sign Recognition System detects and recognises road signs and displays them on the instrument binnacle behind the steering wheel, as well as on the Heads-Up Display, working in conjunction with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) to offer one-touch speed adjustment to specific speed limits. For the first time in Europe, the system also provides a pre-notification of signs, such as an upcoming ‘stop’ sign, to inform the driver as soon as possible and help them prepare for junctions.

The ACC has been updated and now works with turn signals to initiate acceleration when overtaking, smoothing the process for drivers. The system also offers low-speed follow functionality, cornering speed adjustment by road curvature and incline, enabling the CR-V to maintain a constant speed on descents.

Lane Change Collision Mitigation assists steering operation during lane changing to avoid a collision with a vehicle approaching from behind and in the next lane, notifying the driver with a warning sound.

Collision Mitigation Braking System helps bring the car to a stop if it determines that a collision with a vehicle detected in front is unavoidable. In this instance, it will also offer a warning sound, and if necessary, the brake will be automatically applied.

Also debuting on the CR-V is Traffic Jam Assist. This reduces the driver's workload in low-speed congested traffic by helping to keep the vehicle in its lane, starting from 0 km/h. When traffic congestion clears, the car seamlessly switches to the Lane Keeping Assist System.

To further reduce driver burden, Active Lane Change Assist is included for the first-time on CR-V, which assists steering operation when changing lanes and is triggered by use of the turn signal. Once the driver holds the one-touch turn signal, the radar system ensures that the next lane is clear before the vehicle moves over.

Another new feature for CR-V is Parking Pilot, which provides further driver support by monitoring for parking spaces and highlighting on the infotainment screens a suitable position to begin assisted parking. Drivers can simply select the location to be parked in, and the camera and sonar sensors detect the surrounding conditions to automatically control the accelerator, brake, steering and gearshift operations to park and exit the vehicle. It can be activated in three easy steps with a dedicated switch and a touch of the screen, and then the car can be parked by checking the safety of the surroundings, significantly reducing the worries of parking in a large SUV.

Premium quality interior and class-leading spaciousness

High-quality interior design creates a premium experience for occupants
Outward visibility significantly improved over previous CR-V
Clever packaging of hybrid components increases space and practicality

Higher-quality textured materials feature throughout the all-new CR-V’s cabin with tactile switches and controls that are easy to understand and operate, creating a luxurious in-car experience that aligns with premium segment SUVs.

At the front is a clean, uncluttered, and low-set dashboard with a full-width air-vent, centrally mounted 9.0” infotainment screen and large 10.2” digital dial set behind the steering wheel – all arranged to further aid outward visibility.

Colours, materials, and fabric

Both e:PHEV and e:HEV models are set apart by individual styling cues, with the former receiving an exclusive metal honeycomb pattern across the centre dash including air vent outlet for a more premium and sporty finish.

Honda has taken a unified approach to interior colourways, which sees black-hued colours used across the dashboard and throughout the entire interior for a premium finish. The seats are also finished in a black fine genuine leather as standard, with bold quilted accents for a unified, premium feel.

Front heated seats are offered as standard, and are ventilated on the Advance grade, improving comfort on long journeys.

This is the first CR-V to adopt Honda’s Body Stabilising Seat for front occupants, incorporating a planar resin mat structure to support the occupant’s entire lower body, from the pelvis through lumbar spine, for greater stabilisation and support. This also improves the hip point position, making it easier to get in and out of the car.

In the rear, the CR-V achieves the spaciousness of a D-segment SUV with best-in-class rear leg room – up 16mm on the previous model – while rear seat recline has increased 10.5° over the previous CR-V, with 8 selectable options.

The intuitive interior layout prioritises versatility, including the cup holder, storage trays and large capacity cubby box between the front seats. A sleek and ergonomic electric gear selector, with mode switches that are optimally positioned for ease of operation, ensures that the driver can easily access all important functions while on the move, while a newly designed central armrest is also now semi-automated, opening to 60 degrees automatically and a further 30 degrees manually.

New levels of practicality to suit a range of active lifestyles

Raising the bar in terms of load space practicality and interior functionality, the latest CR-V supports active lifestyles. This is typified by one of the largest rear load spaces in the class, with e:HEV models offering 587-litres of cargo space, and e:PHEV variants providing an additional 72-litres thanks to its adjustable two-level cargo floor.

The rear seats slide forward by up to 190mm, which  allows for easy loading of longer items without the need to fold the seats down, while a low boot floor height, and flat, wide one-piece floor panel makes loading cargo easier.

This is aided by the updated tailgate, which has been developed with a new, quieter power lift module that reduces operating time. Hands-free operation is also possible, with automated walk-away close and optional vehicle locking on closure.

Sporty and powerful design: an evolution of a familiar silhouette

Sophisticated and sporty design increases the CR-V’s road presence
Longer wheelbase and wider tread create a more powerful stance
Unique grille designs differentiate e:HEV and e:PHEV models

The all-new Honda CR-V has received a design upgrade across the board to create a more premium and sporty appearance. Wider and longer than the previous version, its expanded exterior creates a more purposeful stance, with a new styling theme that further increases its road presence.

Sporting stance

Now 10mm wider and 80mm longer than its predecessor, the latest CR-V’s silhouette has matured into that of a well-resolved and sporty SUV. Thanks to this larger footprint, the design has allowed the A-pillars to be positioned further rearward and the bonnet elongated for a more dynamic appearance. Combined with its bold horizontal lines and 40mm longer wheelbase, this is still a CR-V but with a contemporary twist.

This model’s bolder, more aggressive styling is typified by the front grille, which features a new larger piano black mesh pattern. As such, e:HEV and e:PHEV versions are distinguished by their own individual designs that match their respective characters, with the latter featuring wider, more open hexagonal shapes for a more aggressive and sporty appearance.

Evolutionary silhouette

The horizontal lower window and crease lines form part of a sleeker side profile, as does the clever door handle redesign that further elevates the noiseless exterior view, thanks to the keyhole and parting line having been deleted.

Defined lower character lines and the double arc wheel arches add volume and depth to the vehicle’s flanks, while at the rear, a new vertical tail, brake and turn light combination presents a sophisticated evolution of this model’s instantly recognisable rear light cluster.

Honda has worked to improve the vehicle’s aerodynamic properties through bold body styling. Beneath the grille, the low, wide valance is sporty and functional in its design, with e:HEV variants incorporating a shutter grille that opens and closes automatically to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve fuel efficiency.

Either side of this slim grille in the front valance, side vents create an air curtain that channels airflow through the bumper, while strakes on the wheel arches further reduce turbulence around the wheels. These combine with the aerodynamically optimised A-pillars, flatter underfloor and rear roof spoiler to improve air flow velocity under and around the CR-V, providing greater stability at higher speeds.

Expressive finishes

Customers can choose from six exterior colours, including new rich Diamond Dust Pearl, Canyon River Blue Metallic and Gold Titan Metallic colours, all featuring for the first time on CR-V. The popular Premium Crystal Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl and Crystal Black finishes are all carried over from the previous model.

This increased colour palette is complimented by more unified, cohesive detailing – with e:HEV models using matte black on trim garnishes and lower bumper sections, and e:PHEV models using piano black to pick out and highlight design details such as the rear spoiler, side mirrors and grill bar.

Smart 18-inch alloy wheels will be standard across the CR-V range – in a gloss Berlina Black finish for the e:PHEV, and Shark Gray metallic for the e:HEV model.

Dynamic driving experience with enhanced comfort and refinement

Lighter, more rigid chassis delivers a dynamic experience behind the wheel and increased driver feedback
Advanced all-wheel drive system offers exceptional driveability across all conditions and terrains
New Snow and Tow drive modes increase usability and versatility

When developing the chassis of the all-new CR-V e:HEV and e:PHEV, the goal was to instil an increased sense of security and comfort for all occupants. This more dynamic driving experience is the result of revised steering and suspension components, reducing understeer and providing a greater sense of control behind the wheel.

Increased rigidity

The introduction of lighter, stronger materials within the CR-V’s new platform design have improved body rigidity, while greater stiffness comes from the application of reinforcement members on the B-pillar and at the base of the C-pillar to increase rigidity around body openings. Structural adhesives, as used in other recent Honda models such as the HR-V and Civic, make their debut on the CR-V, further optimising overall rigidity levels.

At the front, an all-new die-cast aluminium subframe has been deployed, which saves over five kilograms over the previous model. The switch to a die-cast material has not only saved weight but also  helps maintain the rigidity of suspension geometry, ensuring a constant contact patch for the tyres.

This is complemented by an all-new high-rigidity rear subframe, with two new stiffeners added to the open box sections to supress any form of deformation and ensure an even, linear level of tyre contact at the rear. The rear support mounts have also been improved, with a 15% increase in their spring rate.

Honda paid great attention to improving driver comfort and creating a secure steering feel, particularly at high speeds. One example of which is a new steering control unit, which features an optimised steering assist control . This contributes to a sense of security at higher speeds and delivers a light and nimble feel at lower speeds for more instant reactions to driver input; making the CR-V feel more like a saloon behind the wheel.

Damper control

The CR-V has been perfectly designed to deal with broken road surfaces and uneven terrain, thanks to a flatter ride that prevents unnecessary movement over large undulations. The e:HEV has been achieved via amplitude reactive dampers that make the damping force harder or softer based on the vibration frequencies from the road conditions.

The e:PHEV model receives a full adaptive damper system that reacts to a range of vehicle sensor data, including wheel speed, lateral and longitudinal g-force, and yaw rate. The system offers high levels of stability and ride comfort in Normal mode, whilst Sport mode increases the damping force, widens the operating range, and delivers a tighter, more controlled ride for dynamic driving.

All-wheel drive

To further increase the feeling of security, the e:HEV variant of the CR-V is also available with an evolved all-wheel-drive system, which features an all-new control system to actively distribute driving force. The previous CR-V’s AWD system disengaged at higher motorway speeds to reduce drivetrain losses and improve overall efficiency, but the latest model actively retains control of the rear axle for increased grip on fast, undulating and sweeping roads – in all conditions.

Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels have also been significantly reduced with this latest generation AWD system. By reducing the diameter of the constant velocity (CV) joint, the prop shaft’s rotational fluctuations have been lessened, improving quietness and overall cabin comfort levels.

Drive modes and electric assistance

The latest CR-V offers Normal, Sport and Econ drive modes, while the e:PHEV also features EV and Advanced Eco-assist options. There is also a new Snow mode for this model, which reduces traditional throttle response to minimise wheel spin and maximise grip in slippery conditions.

In addition, towing performance has been greatly improved with the addition of a low ratio lock-up and new Tow driving mode. This allows the e:PHEV variant to pull up to 1,500kg (braked) and e:HEV up to 750kg, vastly increasing the flexibility and usability of the vehicle. Tow mode keeps the engine revslow with a low gear ratio lock-up clutch and battery assist when towing uphill, while Hill Descent Control enables secure deceleration using only the accelerator pedal.

The e:PHEV also features a click mechanism on the accelerator pedal to provide feedback to the driver when they reach the limit of electric-only acceleration. When the driver exceeds this range, and requires more speed, the engine will seamlessly start-up to generate maximum electric energy for powerful acceleration . Alternatively, drivers can use this click mechanism as a cue to ease off and remain on electric power.

Extensive technology package provides new levels of connectivity for customers

Extensive range of technologies cater for modern consumer lifestyles
Head-up display is projected onto the windscreen for the first time in CR-V
Navigation system works with powertrain to ensure efficient usage

The all-new CR-V seamlessly integrates itself with customer’s busy lives, featuring an extensive package of technology, including a revamped infotainment system and connectivity options.

Central to this is the updated HMI, designed to minimise up and down eye movement and to enable a more natural use of the system. For the first time on CR-V, a head-up display is projected directly onto the windscreen, allowing drivers to see a broader range of speed, driver assist and navigation information in a clearer resolution.

The navigation system has been updated with Predictive Eco Assist, which assists eco-driving by monitoring for downhill sections that will enable energy recuperation and improve real world economy. The CR-V e:PHEV also plans how the battery will be used over an entire route to ensure the most efficient use of the hybrid system.

For e:HEV Elegance grades, a powerful eight speaker system is included as standard, whilst e:HEV Advance and e:PHEV Advance Tech grades gain a comprehensive high-performance BOSE Premium Audio system with 12 speakers across the cabin.

A 10.2-inch TFT digital instrument binnacle behind the steering wheel presents all necessary information in a timely manner through a sophisticated meter display, while automated functions promote reduced manual operation when driving.

At night, charging ports and key buttons are illuminated for ease of use, with four illuminated USB ports (1xType A and 1x Type C at the front and 2x Type C in the rear) that support a wider range of devices and increased charging speeds.

A dedicated wireless charging area at the front operates at 15W – three times more powerful than the outgoing CR-V. To ensure more stable charging, a cooling fan has also been integrated into this area to reduce heat generation.

Available on the e:PHEV model, Honda’s Digital Key unlocks new connectivity options for users. Using Honda’s smartphone application, customers can lock and unlock the vehicle, and turn on the engine in the same way as a regular key. However, unlike a regular key, the ‘Digital Key’ can be shared securely and digitally with selected invited drivers.

Finally, high-quality LED lighting has also been added throughout and is supplemented with soft ambient lighting in the centre console, doors, footwells and door handle recesses for a premium ambience throughout the cabin.

Summary of Honda CEO Speech at the Japan Mobility Show 2023

https://hondanews.eu/eu/en/cars/media/pressreleases/456156/summary-of-honda-ceo-speech-at-the-japan-mobility-show-2023?utm_campaign=NewsAlert_6800&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=hondanews.eu

TOKYO, Japan, October 25, 2023 -- Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Director, President and Representative, Toshihiro Mibe held a press conference today, at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2023.

Following is a summary of his formal remarks:

    About JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW

What used to be the Tokyo Motor Show is now “reborn” as the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW, which will offer an exciting look into the future of not only cars and motorcycles, but a broader range of mobility products, services and technologies.

Honda is a company that started off with motorcycles, but has been expanding the lineup of its mobility products to include automobiles, and now aircraft and more. In light of the evolution of the “Tokyo Motor Show” into the “JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW,” at the Honda booth, we will be exhibiting not only automobiles but diverse forms of current and future mobility that Honda is pursuing.

We offer visitors the opportunity to experience the future mobility Honda dreams of, and also to participate in creating the future mobility with us.

Our passion behind the Honda Global Brand Slogan, “The Power of Dreams — How we move you. ”

This year, Honda is celebrating its 75th anniversary. When we look back on our history of offering a wide range of value to our customers and society as a manufacturer of mobility products, we can say that Honda has grown to this point while always being driven by “dreams,” and taking on challenges to realize what was thought to be impossible.

The Power of Dreams – How we move you. – This is the Honda Global Brand Slogan, which conveys the message that the dreams of each and every one working at Honda have always been the driving force of Honda, and a variety of mobility products and services Honda creates with such power of dreams will move people physically, move people’s hearts, and help many people realize their dreams so that there will be an expanse of dreams toward the future.

We picked the “Honda Dream Loop” as our booth theme to express the future, toward which the dreams of many people will form an endless loop and continue expanding, starting from mobility products and services that embody Honda’s dreams.

Value proposition unique only to Honda – “Transcend” and “Augment”

The mobility products and services that embody Honda’s dreams will enable people to “transcend various constraints such as time and place,” and to “augment their abilities and possibilities.” Those two are essential values of all types of mobility products and services Honda has been offering for the past 75 years since its founding, and the value Honda wants to continue offering now and in the future.

Mobility enables us to see new surroundings, meet new people and discover new things, which expands the world we live in. On the other hand, mobility faces various constraints. It may take a long time just to get to the destination, and we often cannot do anything else during that time. Or, we cannot even get to some places due to a lack of the proper means of transportation. Honda wants to enable people to transcend such constraints, and we want to continue offering the joy and freedom of mobility into the future.

By using new mobility products and services at the will of the user, we can go faster and farther. We can go to places where we cannot get to only with human ability. New mobility products and services will enable people to do things that were not possible before. That is the value of “augmenting people’s possibilities.”

At the Honda booth, we are exhibiting various mobility products and technologies which will enable people to “transcend various constraints such as time and place,” and to “augment their abilities and possibilities.” Let me introduce some of them.

<Mobility products and services enable people to transcend various constraints such as time, place and limited resources>

Cruise Origin autonomous vehicle will enable people to transcend the constraint of time

Since the interior space of this vehicle can be completely private, the users can use their travel time more freely, such as holding a meeting or having a fun time with the family without worrying about other people around them. This vehicle will indeed let us transcend the constraints of time. Time is an absolute constraint for most people. Mobility products and services which enable people to use the limited time given equally to all people – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – more efficiently for more meaningful things, will offer a tremendous value for people.

Together with GM and Cruise, Honda is planning to launch a driverless ridehail service using the Cruise Origin, in Japan in early 2026.

Honda eVTOL and HondaJet will expand the mobility three-dimensionally into the skies and enable people to transcend the constraints of place and distance

When we can combine these aircraft with mobility systems on the ground and enable people to travel more freely and seamlessly on the ground, in the ocean and in the skies, the hurdles people face in long-distance traveling will be lowered. This would make it easier for people to live in a nature-rich suburban area and work in the cities only when necessary. This could be described as “transcending the constraints of place and distance.” This three-dimensional and seamless mobility will help people live more enjoyable lives with better work-life balance.

SUSTAINA-C Concept will enable people to transcend the constraints of limited resources

Mobility products are made from a variety of materials, including metals, resins and fabrics. However, these materials and resources are limited. If we only use current ways of making products and recycling, there will, sooner or later, come a time when it will become difficult to sustain our production of mobility products.

This SUSTAINA-C Concept is a car made of acrylic resin that is recycled and reused. This kind of resource circulation will enable us to transcend the constraints of the limited availability of resources, and achieve both environmental sustainability and the joy and freedom of mobility long into the future.

<Mobility products designed to augment people’s abilities and possibilities >

Honda Avatar Robot and the UNI-ONE will augment people’s abilities and possibilities

By logging in and remotely controlling Honda Avatar Robot in a distant location, we can perform tasks and experience things remotely as if we are there in person. The use of Honda Avatar Robot will enable all people, including those who have limited mobility due to various constraints, to play active roles from a remote location. And this UNI-ONE is a mobility device the user can steer simply by shifting their body weight while sitting without using hands and thus perform certain tasks while moving. The UNI-ONE will expand opportunities for users with mobility challenges.

Honda CI-MEV self-driving micro-mobility vehicle will augment the living radius for people

As people get older, driving and walking might become difficult. And there are people who live in areas where no public transportation is available. Such people tend to have a limited living radius. If there are products that offer easily-accessible, last-mile mobility, people can go places, farther, faster and more casually. And if everyone can enjoy mobility more freely and expand their living radius, they will have more chance to meet new people, which we believe will augment people’s possibilities.
Summary of Honda CEO Speech at the Japan Mobility Show 2023

I could only introduce so many, but there are many other items on display at the Honda booth, please enjoy looking at all of them, which represent the future Honda envisions!

Creating our “dream mobility” through a Generative AI-powered experience

At this year’s Honda booth, we are not only showcasing the future mobility Honda dreams of. We would like to invite visitors to our website or at the booth to participate in our Dream Loop.

At Honda, we began using generative AI to support the ability of our designers to demonstrate their creativity. At this Japan Mobility Show, generative AI will generate design drawings of future mobility you dream of and project them on the “Loop Screen” inside our booth.

My dream is to realize a world where mobility products bearing the Honda logo are traveling all around the world, on the ground, in the ocean, in the skies and into outer space, and people are enjoying the true freedom of mobility. So, let me input ideas of my dream mobility.

Like mine, your dream mobility will be visualized. We are thinking that, after the Show, we will select a few and have Honda designers work on them. Please come visit the Honda booth and have fun drawing your dream mobility.

Prelude Concept will take the “joy of driving” into the full-fledged electrified future

I have introduced some of the mobility products that embody Honda’s dreams, which represent the Honda of today and the future. But we know our customers are expecting one more thing from Honda, and that is sports models.

At the automobile electrification business briefing we held last year, I talked about future sports models. Today, to conclude my presentation, I would like to show you one of them – the specialty sports model.

Everyone, this is the Prelude Concept.

Honda has always been committed to creating sporty vehicles. And the word “prelude” means an “introductory or preceding performance.” This model will become the prelude for our future models which will inherit the “joy of driving” into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda’s unalterable sports mindset. The Prelude Concept is a specialty sports model that will offer exhilarating experience that makes you want to keep going forever and extraordinary excitement you never felt before.

In order to offer the “joy of driving” only Honda can realize, we are diligently progressing with development, so please keep your expectations high for this model.

Honda has been conducting business based on its Global Brand Slogan: The Power of Dreams – How we move you. This slogan conveys the message that Honda will create mobility products and services which enable people to “transcend various constraints such as time and place,” and to “augment their abilities and possibilities.” With such mobility products and services, Honda will support the realization of dreams of more people and become the driving force that moves society forward.

Moreover, Honda is aiming to realize carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities Honda is involved in by 2050. To this end, the company is pursuing electrification to achieve its automobile electrification target of “increasing the ratio of EV and FCEV sales to 100% globally by 2040.”

The Honda 0 Series is a new EV series that symbolizes how Honda is undergoing a major transformation in line with its Global Brand Slogan and electrification policy. The series name represents Honda’s determination in taking on this challenge of developing new EV series by going back to the starting point of Honda as an automaker and creating completely new EVs from “zero.”  With this new EV series, Honda will strive to further advance its “M/M concept*1” and the “joy of driving,” which Honda values in its car making, and take the “joy and freedom of mobility” to even greater heights.

In 2026, Honda will begin introducing the first model of the Honda 0 Series globally, starting from North America, then to Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East and South America.

*1 The “man maximum, machine minimum” concept is a basic approach to Honda car design, an approach to increase the efficiency of the vehicle interior by maximizing space for people and minimizing the space required for mechanical components.

<About Honda 0 Series>

■ Thoughts behind the “0” (zero)

1. History of Honda: The origin and staring (“zero”) point of Honda

Honda will create a new point of origin for the next-generation of Honda by going back to the starting point of Honda, including the pursuit of the M/M concept, the joy of driving and the joy of the freedom of mobility, which Honda has always valued and will continue to pursue.

2. Implementation of the Global Brand Slogan: Moving peoples’ hearts with the value created from “zero”

Under its global brand slogan “The Power of Dreams – How we move you,” Honda will always be driven by “dreams,” and by creating new value through creative thinking from zero, Honda will provide experiences that will become a new starting point for our customers. This is how Honda will move people and their hearts.

3. Initiatives to contribute to society: Determination to achieve “zero”

Honda is determined to achieve “zero environmental impact” throughout the vehicle’s life cycle, including corporate activities, and “zero traffic collision fatalities” involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles.

■ “Thin, Light, and Wise” – New approach to EV development and the five core values Honda EVs will offer

In developing the Honda 0 Series, the development team went back to the starting point of Honda and reconsidered what kind of EVs Honda wants to create in the coming era.  Honda will strive to create new value for EVs by transcending the constraints of being a “thick and heavy” vehicle due to an increase in battery capacity the vehicle has to carry to secure enough range, as well as a large body and platform necessary to accommodate such battery capacity. Honda describes this new approach to EV development as “Thin, Light, and Wise.”

Thin:

Augmenting design potential, including styling with a low vehicle height, and realizing excellent aerodynamic performance by utilizing a “thin” dedicated EV platform to create a low floor height.

Light:

Realizing sporty driving and electricity efficiency performance that defy the established beliefs people have about EVs through Honda original technologies created by going back to the starting point of Honda as an automaker.

Wise:

Realizing Honda original software-defined mobility products by leveraging the knowledge Honda has amassed to date and by making cars wiser through the advancement of intelligent technologies.

Honda EVs, which will be built based on this development approach and feature a dedicated EV architecture, will offer the following five core values:

1) Artistic design that evokes resonance
2) AD/ADAS that ensures safety and peace of mind
3) A “space” for people made possible by the internet of things and connected technologies
4) The joy of driving with the feeling of oneness with the vehicle
5) Outstanding electricity efficiency performance

■ Five core values

1) Artistic design that evokes resonance:

The design concept is “The Art of Resonance.” Under the theme of a “resonance with the environment, society and users,” Honda will offer sustainable mobility products that evoke resonance in people who see them and expand the possibilities of people’s daily life.

2) AD/ADAS that ensures safety and peace of mind:

In 2021, Honda put Level 3 automated driving into practical use by introducing the all-new Legend equipped with Honda SENSING Elite that includes an advanced technology qualifying for Level 3 automated driving (conditional automated driving in a limited area). In order to offer automated driving technologies Honda has amassed to more customers around the world, the Honda 0 Series will feature an ADAS (advanced driver-assistive system) that utilizes the technologies of Honda SENSING Elite.

Moreover, in the second half of the 2020s, Honda 0 Series models will feature an AD (automated driving) system and will be offered as more affordable EVs featuring more automated driving functions.

This AD system is being developed based on Honda’s “human-centric” safety concept. It will feature further advanced AI, sensing, recognition/decision-making and driver monitoring technologies to realize more human-like, natural and high-precision risk predictions, making it possible to offer automated driving functions people can use safely and with peace of mind. Such advanced AD technologies will increase the number of situations where automated driving can be used on expressways and make some of hands-off functions, currently available only on expressways, available on regular roads.

3) New value as a “space” for people made possible by the internet of things (IoT) and connected technologies:

Through IoT and connected technologies centered on Honda’s original vehicle OS, the Honda 0 Series models will aim to offer the value of “fun to drive, fun to use and fun to be connected.” With the utilization of AI and big data, the vehicle will learn the user’s preferences such as music, as well as a driver’s behaviors and tendencies while driving, and will make various suggestions. Moreover, the vehicle will provide information about the surrounding areas and route guidance for the “last mile” to the final destination that users have to travel on their own after getting off the vehicle. The vehicle will offer value as if it understands the feelings of the user. The more people use their vehicle, the closer they become with their vehicles, which makes it possible for the vehicle to offer the “fun of being connected” in various situations in people’s daily lives.

4) The joy of driving with the feeling of oneness with the vehicle

With Honda’s original electrification and dynamics technologies, the Honda 0 Series models will offer the joy of driving for a new era, an uplifting feeling that comes from a sporty drive and sense of oneness the driver feels, both mentally and physically, with the vehicle. In addition, by combining the low-height styling of the 0 Series with a full range of aerodynamic technologies honed by Honda in motor sports, dynamic and aerodynamic performance and design will be harmonized at a high level.

5) Outstanding electricity efficiency performance

Based on the electrification technology Honda has amassed in the development of hybrid vehicles and other areas, energy efficiency is pursued to achieve high electricity efficiency performance. In particular, Honda 0 Series models will feature e-Axles*2 with excellent power conversion efficiency and packaging, lightweight, high-density battery packs and excellent aerodynamic performance, targeting a sufficient range while minimizing the battery capacity loaded on the vehicle.

Moreover, to address concerns about “charging time” and “battery degradation,” which have been the challenge facing the popularization of EVs, Honda 0 Series models will offer stress-free charging performance and worry-free battery performance that minimizes degradation over many years of use. For the 0 Series models to be launched in the second half of the 2020s, fast-charging 15% to 80% will be shortened to about 10-15 minutes. In the meantime, by applying battery system control technology refined based on a massive amount of driving data from over 1 million units of Honda electrified vehicles, Honda is striving to limit the degradation of battery capacity (range) to less than 10% after 10 years of use.

*2 A system that consists of a motor, inverter and gearbox, and converts electric power energy into driving force.

■ Concept models that represent the Honda 0 Series – Saloon and Space-Hub
<Saloon>

The Saloon is the flagship concept model of the Honda 0 Series, which embodies the “Thin, Light, and Wise” approach. The dedicated EV architecture extends the degree of freedom in design and elevates the M/M concept in the era of EVs. The low height, sporty styling that sets the Saloon apart from other EVs at first glance realizes both a fascinating design and an interior space that is more spacious than people can imagine based on the exterior appearance. Moreover, the instrument panel features a human-machine interface (HMI) that enables simple and intuitive operations, realizing a sophisticated and seamless user interface (UI). With an exhilarating visibility and intuitive UI, the Saloon strives to provide a fun driving experience that resonates with the driver’s sensibility.

With the adoption of steer-by-wire and the further advancement of the motion management system, including posture control, that Honda has amassed through the development of original robotics technologies, the Saloon aims to realize control at the will of the driver in a variety of driving situations. As the flagship model of the Honda 0 Series, the Saloon pursues the ultimate “joy of driving” in the EV era. Furthermore, including the use of sustainable materials for the interior and exterior, the Saloon is being developed as a unique model that resonates with users and the natural environment.

Honda Presents World Premiere of ‘CR-V e:FCEV’ Production Model at H2 & FC EXPO Tokyo: An all-new fuel cell SUV with plug-in charging functionality

https://hondanews.eu/eu/en/cars/media/pressreleases/472481/honda-presents-world-premiere-of-production-model-of-cr-v-efcev-at-h2-and-fc-expo-tokyo-all-new-fuel

TOKYO, Japan, February 28, 2024 – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Today held the world premiere of the production model of the CR-V e:FCEV, an all-new hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), which is scheduled to go on sale in Japan and the USA this summer.

The CR-V e:FCEV will be exhibited at H2 & FC EXPO – The 21st International Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo–which will be held from Wednesday, February 28, through Friday, March 1, 2024 at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan.

With the introduction of the CR-V e:FCEV, Honda will be the first Japanese automaker* to launch an FCEV model featuring a plug-in charging function that enables charging of the onboard battery from an external power source. Without compromising the advantages of an FCEV, such as long driving range and a short hydrogen refuelling time, the addition of a plug-in feature to charge the battery at home and/ or on the go further enhances the convenience of FCEVs.

The CR-V e:FCEV is expected to offer more than 600km (372 miles) of range on a full tank of hydrogen, with an additional battery-powered EV range of more than 60km (37 miles) measured by the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

The CR-V e:FCEV will be equipped with the fuel cell system co-developed by Honda and General Motors (GM) and produced by their joint venture company, Fuel Cell System Manufacturing, LLC (in Michigan, U.S.A.).The vehicle will be produced at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Centre (in Ohio, U.S.A.) and exported to Japan. Following the introduction in Japan, sales in North America are scheduled to begin before the end of 2024.

Honda has set itself the goal of realising carbon neutrality for all of its products and corporate activities by 2050 and 'zero environmental impact' throughout the entire product lifecycle including the product and all corporate activities. Toward this end, Honda is focusing on the following ‘three-pillars’, ‘carbon neutrality’, ‘clean energy’ and ‘resource circulation’. Within these initiatives, Honda positions hydrogen as one of the high-potential energy carriers, along with electricity, and has been continuing research and development of hydrogen technologies including FCEVs for more than 30 years.

In 2002, the Honda FCX became the first FCEV in the world to receive certification from both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and went on lease sales in Japan and the U.S. Since then, Honda has continued the development of FCEVs and began lease sales of the FCX Clarity in 2008 and the Clarity Fuel Cell in 2016.

Key features of the CR-V e:FCEV】

■ Grand concept: “E-Life Generator”

The CR-V e:FCEV was developed as a practical FCEV for customers; combining the rugged driving performance and functionality of an SUV with a short hydrogen refuelling time, approximately 3 minutes, for stress-free long-distance driving. The plug-in charging feature offers users the convenience of an EV for everyday driving.

Moreover, in addition to the high-output power supply through an external power output device, the user can also use electricity from the CR-V e:FCEV more easily through a dedicated power output connector that plugs into the vehicle’s normal charging port. Such external power output features will offer customers convenience and peace of mind in a wide range of situations where electricity supply is needed for everyday and recreational activities as well as during power outages.

■ Packaging

The CR-V e:FCEV features a cabin as spacious as the CR-V base model. As for the cargo space, the packaging team adopted an idea to take advantage of the protruding shape of the hydrogen tank to realise a two-level cargo space using a flexible board, featuring a flat and large luggage space and an upper storage level for easy organisation of smaller items.

■ Design

While inheriting the sporty and highly functional styling of successive generations of CR-V models, the CR-V e:FCEV features exterior design that expresses an intelligent and dynamic appearance unique only to FCEVs, based on the key words of ‘clean’, ‘tough’, and ‘iconic’. As for interior design, without compromising the high-quality and toughness of the CR-V interior, the CR-V e:FCEV offers a style unique to a user-friendly and environmentally responsible FCEV, including the use of a bio-based synthetic leather for the seats.

■ Fuel cell system

The CR-V e:FCEV is equipped with a fuel cell system co-developed with GM. Compared to the fuel cell system in the 2019 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, the overall cost of the new system has been reduced by two-thirds through a reduction in the amount of platinum used and the number of cells, as well as the positive effects of scaling up production. Durability of the system has doubled, and low temperature resistance has increased significantly compared to the previous system. In addition, power unit components, centring on the fuel cell system, have been integrated to realise a compact and lightweight power unit, which has also contributed to the cost reduction and enhancement of passive safety performance by enabling use of the original engine mount of the base CR-V model. Furthermore, compared to the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, vibration and noise have been significantly reduced, greatly improving the quality of the driving experience.

■ Charging and output functions

For the alternating current (AC) charging/ output connector for the CR-V e:FCEV, the SAE J1772, the Level 2 charging standard in Japan and the U.S. is adopted, which enables users to plug in the CR-V e: FCEV to a household AC electrical outlet for convenient charging of the onboard battery. Moreover, the CR-V e:FCEV features a function for external output of AC electricity to a maximum of 1500W by plugging in the Honda Power Supply Connector, an AC external charging connector, to a normal charging port of the vehicle. This enables the CR-V e:FCEV to serve as a power source during power outages as well as for outdoor recreational activities.

Furthermore, the Japanese version of the CR-V e:FCEV is equipped with a direct current (DC) output connector based on the CHAdeMO standard. By connecting the output connector located in the cargo space to a portable external power output device, such as the Power Exporter e:6000 or Power Exporter 9000, the CR-V e:FCEVcan realise high-output external power and serve as a power source in case of an emergency and/ or for an outdoor event.

HONDA SHOWCASES VISION FOR MORE SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT DESIGN AT MILAN DESIGN WEEK

https://hondanews.eu/eu/en/cars/media/pressreleases/473949/honda-showcases-vision-for-more-sustainable-product-design-at-milan-design-week

SUSTAINA-C Concept and Pocket Concept join production SH125i ‘Vetro’ scooter to demonstrate Honda’s evolving approach to more sustainable product design
New material use and unique paintless finishes reduce CO2 emissions during manufacturing and create a distinct aesthetic for customers
Models demonstrate Honda’s ‘Triple Action to Zero’ strategy in action as it pursues carbon neutrality across all products and corporate activities by 2050
Honda is headlining Vanity Fair Italia’s ‘Garden of Ideas’ event in celebration of design, innovation and sustainability at Museo Diocesano from 16-21 April
Honda is showcasing its evolving approach to more sustainable product design with the European premiere of its latest electrified urban vehicle concepts – the SUSTAINA-C Concept car and Pocket Concept motorcycle – at Milan Design Week from 16-21 April.

Both will star alongside the SH125i ‘Vetro’ scooter to demonstrate the innovative material use and unique design aesthetics that can be created while reducing the CO2 emissions arising from the manufacturing process at Honda Italia Industriale’s factory in Atessa, Italy. This is one way in which Honda is pursuing its target of achieving carbon neutrality across all products and corporate activities by 2050.

As first shown at the 2024 Japan Mobility Show, the SUSTAINA-C Concept explores how society could be freed from the constraints of finite resources. It comes paired with the Pocket Concept, a compact motorcycle that can be stored in the luggage compartment and provide last mile mobility.

The panels are manufactured using recycled acrylic resin sourced from second-hand taillights to create exterior panels that do not require painting, allowing Honda to create a unique, unpainted finish that would not be possible with traditional materials. This material approach could reduce emissions during production by up to 45 per cent – partly via the recycled materials in use, but also in leaving the panels unpainted, which can account for as much as 80 per cent of the CO2 emissions from an automobile factory.

The model on show in Milan features a black and white marble effect, achieved by mixing colours with different melting points into the panels as they are moulded – leaving a marbling behind as the material settles into the mould.

Alongside their eye-catching appearance, not only are the vehicle panels crack resistant and able to return to their original shape following light collisions, but they also offer a high level of weather resistance with minimal degradation from sunlight.

At the rear, the acrylic resin’s excellent transparency has allowed for the SUSTAINA-C Concept’s tailgate to be formed out of a single panel that acts like a smartphone screen. The mini-LED display has been designed to communicate with other road users via simple text or imagery, thereby offering a potential new dimension for the exterior design of future vehicles.

Finally, the acrylic resin being used demonstrates a possible approach to future resource circulation. Developed in partnership with Mitsubishi Chemical, when the second-hand taillights are sourced from end-of-life vehicles, they are crushed and treated, before being moulded into the panels required for the SUSTAINA-C Concept. This is one way Honda is looking to reduce resource extraction and part of its exploration into more energy-efficient, low-carbon, cost-effective advanced recycling technologies and the creation of a vehicle-to-vehicle circular value chain.

Kento Ishii, SUSTAINA-C spokesperson, said: “The SUSTAINA-C is proof of the possibilities available when we think more sustainably. This is not only true of the panels themselves, but also those elements that are not visible from the outside. Whether that is sourcing more environmentally friendly steel for the chassis, or recycled materials for the interior, there are so many ways in which we can start to make a difference in the way we manufacture vehicles. And none of this needs to come at the expense of how our products look – utilising new materials to create a unique aesthetic and deliver enhanced value for our customers.”

Honda is already finding ways to reduce the CO2 emissions of its product manufacturing here in Europe, as demonstrated by the ‘Vetro’ version of its immensely popular SH125i scooter produced at Honda Italia Industriale. The ‘Vetro’, Italian for glass, is a special edition model that features distinctive semi-transparent unpainted green fairing panels. The processes around the use of these panels at the Atessa factory reduce CO2 emissions by 9.5 per cent when compared with the manufacturing processes for standard painted fairings.

Developed in partnership with Honda Motor in Japan, the new material is a substitute for the ABS plastic traditionally used for non-structural parts and components, helping to form a sleek, unified body style and premium presence.

The SH125i Vetro’s elegant looks are matched by its effortless practicality and efficiency, as the first Atessa-built Honda model to meet new EURO5+ emissions targets – a legal requirement for all new model types by the end of 2024.

Marcello Vinciguerra, Managing Director, Honda Italia Industriale, said: “The SH125i Vetro demonstrates how small changes in the materials used can have a tangible environmental benefit. We work hard at our Atessa factory to streamline the efficiency of our production methods, and this extends to how we reduce the emissions we create. We are therefore excited at the potential to further contribute towards Honda’s global carbon neutrality targets via continued innovation and product development.”

Honda’s reduction of CO2 emissions via innovative material use, as demonstrated on the SH125i Vetro, is just one step it is taking here in Europe to contribute to the company’s global target of achieving carbon neutrality across all products and corporate activities by 2050.

Central to this pursuit is Honda’s ‘Triple Action to Zero’ initiative, which covers carbon neutrality, clean energy, and resource circulation – the latter of which will see it aim to establish vehicle-to-vehicle resource circulation and the application of up to 100 per cent sustainable materials. Both the SUSTAINA-C Concept and Pocket Concept are early examples of what this could look like in the future.

Victoria Friend, Head of Product Compliance & Sustainability, Honda Motor Europe, said: “The SUSTAINA-C Concept, Pocket Concept, and SH125i Vetro embody the change we are looking to make as we accelerate our transition from a mass consumption business model to one of circularity. This cannot happen overnight, but by identifying the small steps we are able to make now – such as those being made at our Atessa factory – we can implement increasingly impactful measures that will help us on our way to carbon neutrality across our products and corporate activities by 2050.”

Headlining Vanity Fair Italia’s ‘Garden of Ideas’ exhibit during Milan Design Week, the Honda stand will sit within the courtyard of the Museo Diocesano. Its mirrored exterior walls have been designed to blend into the historic surroundings, with a full-width iridescent window that helps create an organic space, rich with nature and accentuating the sustainable themes on show.

Inside, visitors can see the three models on display, alongside examples from the manufacturing process of the SUSTAINA-C Concept, demonstrating the journey the acrylic resin takes from second-hand taillight to vehicle body panel.

NEW HONDA CR-V ACHIEVES FIVE-STARS IN EURO NCAP TESTS

https://hondanews.eu/eu/en/cars/media/pressreleases/473895/new-honda-cr-v-achieves-five-stars-in-euro-ncap-tests

Latest CR-V models feature the latest, enhanced Honda SENSING and SENSING 360 technologies, including sonar sensors and front wide view camera for all round safety
New structural components built into the CR-V’s chassis and body help improve front, rear, and side collision protection
Honda’s commitment to achieving zero road fatalities involving its products by 2050 ensures the CR-V remains one of the safest cars in its class
The all-new Honda CR-V e:HEV and e:PHEV models with SENSING 360, have been awarded the maximum five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP safety tests.

Embodying Honda’s commitment to zero road fatalities involving any of its products by 2050, the sixth generation CR-V features a number of improved and upgraded technologies to achieve one of the highest levels of passenger and pedestrian safety in its class.

Included within Honda’s expansive SENSING 360 offering is an improved Front Cross Traffic Warning, which is designed to detect the presence of vehicles to the left, right and in front of the car before issuing audible, visual and tactile alerts to alert the driver if approaching with too much speed.

If the driver fails to respond, the Collision Mitigation Braking System is triggered, which automatically applies light brake pressure to help reduce the likelihood or severity of a frontal impact. If the system senses imminent collision, it will now brake forcefully.

In addition to Honda SENSING 360, to meet stringent Euro NCAP crash impact safety standards for Adult Occupant Protection, the CR-V’s body incorporates a number of structural braces to enhance the overall passive safety of the vehicle.

This includes the side frame and upper chassis member designed with multiple load paths to efficiently absorb collision energy away from occupants. In addition, the A-pillar has been designed and reinforced to suppress deformation of the passenger cell.

These structural improvements have been incorporated into the CR-V chassis to conform to the new Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier (MPDB), Advanced European Mobile Deformable Barrier and 32km/h pole crash tests. Due to the increased battery size of the e:PHEV variant, further floor cross members have been added to the chassis to minimize deformation of the floor from side collisions.

In addition to the stronger, more protective chassis, all trim variants of the new CR-V incorporate a total of 11 airbags as standard, including knee airbags for both front occupants to reduce injury during front impacts and side airbags to protect front and rear seat passengers. A front centre airbag features for the first time, which prevents a collision between the driver and front passenger during a side impact.

This level of protection is extended to all occupants, not just adults, as the car also scored well in the Child Occupant Protection category thanks to the integrated ISOFIX mounting points that conform to the latest European i-Size standards.

The Elegance grade CR-V e:HEV, equipped with Honda’s SENSING system, achieved a four-star rating in the new, more stringent NCAP tests.

Honda has announced that four of its products – the EM1 e: electric moped, Motocompacto ultra-compact foldable e-scooter, BF350 large-size outboard motor and Miimo robotic lawn mower – were named Red Dot winners 2024 in the Product Design discipline of the Red Dot Design Award*1, one of the most respected design awards in the world. This is the fifth consecutive year that Honda products have won a Red Dot award.

 EM1 e:

Developed under the concept of creating an “electric scooter ‘just right’ for people,” the EM1 e: is a personal-use, electric moped powered by the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: swappable battery. The EM1 e: features simple and slim packaging realized by the optimization of the layout of key components. High-brightness LEDs are adopted for the lights, contributing to greater peace of mind experienced by customers while riding at night. The headlight features a simple, flush-surface design, highlighting the iconic look of EM1 e: model.

Motocompacto

The Motocompacto is a modern, all-electric take on the Honda Motocompo, which was originally introduced in 1981 as a “trunk bike” designed to fit inside the Honda City. Developed as a “first and last mile” mobility solution which was conceived to be used in combination with an electric vehicle. The Motocompacto features sophisticated styling that belies its simplicity. Its compact size means it can be folded into an easy-to-carry configuration, which makes it possible to load into/unload from a standard B segment vehicle, and store in a tight space. The design also enables a high level of customer personalization and tailoring through the application of stickers and other decorations.

BF350

Equipped with a newly developed dedicated V8 engine with a displacement of 4,952 cm3 (302 in3), the BF350 is the flagship Honda marine outboard model, providing powerful propulsion. In addition to high performance and seaworthiness achieved by the abundant torque, the BF350 realizes a high level of quiet operation and low vibration through the adoption of a newly designed crankshaft. The BF350 was developed to offer an environmentally- responsible and cost-effective outboard, with top-level fuel economy in its class*2.

Inheriting the same ‘Noble Motion Form’ design concept as other Honda outboards, the BF350 exudes a familiar sense of unity with nature and people through the simple and clean styling. The use of three-dimensional logos and chrome-plated parts, the BF350 expresses a sense of luxury and high-quality styling appropriate for a flagship model.

Miimo

Miimo is an electric and autonomous robotic lawn mower which automatically cuts the lawn within a dedicated area. Miimo features an automatic charging function: returning automatically to its docking station to recharge when running low on power, realizing the full automation of lawn mowing. The latest model, as launched in Europe in 2023, features a Satellite Assisted Homing function which uses location information from a satellite positioning system to find a more direct route to return to its docking station and a Shortcut Wire that enables Miimo to navigate narrow passages and space, further increasing mowing efficiency.

While pursuing a dynamic design, with a feeling of vitality, the Miimo has been crafted using soft and rounded curves that evoke a sense of attachment, whilst the design team managed to create a compact, low center-of-gravity form that enables the mower to navigate into even the tightest spaces.

“We are honored to be named as winners in the Red Dot Design Award: Product Design 2024, world-class design award,” said Toshinobu Minami, Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer, Design Center, Honda R&D Co., Ltd. “The designs of EM1 e:, Motocompacto, BF350 and Miimo represent Honda’s passion to move people physically, move people’s hearts and expand the dreams all around the world. We believe that such passion was understood and shared by many people, which resulted in Honda winning the Red Dot. Honda will continue surprising and inspiring people around the world through the creation of mobility Honda dreams of. While being driven by the power of our dreams, we will strive to become a company that moves people and society forward.”
