Currently, Tomko holds the title of senior vice president at HMA and serves as an Operation Leader in charge of all vehicle and engine production at the $2 billion facility.
He replaces current HMA President Tom Shoupe, who will take the positions of executive vice president and chief operating officer at Honda of America Mfg. Inc.
Tomko will be responsible for total HMA operations in his new position.
“Jeff Tomko has played a valuable role in the development and sustainability of Honda’s operations in Alabama, Ohio and in North America,” Shoupe said. “Jeff’s extensive knowledge of manufacturing, along with overall business operations, makes him a perfect fit to lead HMA into the future.”
Tomko got his start working in purchasing with Honda in 1987. He has held numerous positions throughout Honda of America Mfg. operations in Ohio, including serving as plant manager for the Marysville Auto Plant in Marysville, Ohio.
Shoupe, an employee of Honda since 1988, worked in corporate planning and was selected as HMA president in 2011, becoming the first American to hold the title of president at a Honda production company.
During his tenure as president, the company invested more than $508 million, hired 450 new associates and completed its fourth full model change with the introduction of the 2014 Acura MDX luxury sport utility vehicle.
“Tom has been a strong advocate for associate safety, improved production efficiency and vehicle quality during his tenure at HMA,” Tomko said. “His leadership has enhanced HMA’s effort to maximize flexible manufacturing operations and respond quickly to customer demand.”
The company employs more than 4,000 associates in its 3.7 million square foot facility where more than three million vehicles have been produced since Nov. 14, 2001. The facility is the sole production source of the Odyssey minivan, the Pilot sport utility vehicle, the Ridgeline pickup truck, the Acura MDX and the V-6 engines for each vehicle.
