New CEO, new plans? A shakeup in the japanese rumor mill concerning the future of Honda Sports Carshttp://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=1272425''Over the past 18-24 months, the Japanese rumor mill has been awash with a lot of rumors concerning Honda's plans for expanding their sports car lineup. Of course the S660 and NSX were the subject of many of those rumors, and those cars are now on the road, but there has also been a lot of talk about how Honda planned to fill the vast gulf between their two MR sports cars that have made it into production. We have heard of a "baby NSX", an MR S1000 coupe and/or roadster, and a new MR S2000. There have been some rumors of FR sports cars sprinkled in there as well. So we've been skeptical of anything specific that's come along as it all seemed a little far fetched. And things have gone a bit quiet on that front during the transitional period between Honda's CEOs.
Now it seems that Hachigo has been in place long enough, that some plans are being set in motion, and if we are to believe the latest batch of Japanese rumor mags, it seems like there are FR sports coupes being discussed.
The latest issues of BestCar and Holiday Auto magazine both have similar renderings of an FR "S1000" or "S2000" splashing across their covers, so it seems that word has leaked that Honda is changing things up a bit. At this point, we hope there's some truth that something will emerge in this space, but we'll wait until we hear further word on this before getting too excited. For now it's fun to dream about.
