American Honda Sets New November Sales Records; Core Vehicles Lead the Way

    TLX and ILX sedans push Acura Cars up 29.5 percent in November while driving an overall division increase

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported a new November Honda and Acura vehicle sales record of 121,814 units, an increase of 4.6 percent versus November 2013. Overall AHM truck sales also set a November record, increasing 12.9 percent on sales of 60,384 vehicles. The Honda brand set a new November best, recording sales of 106,957 vehicles—an increase of 4.9 percent for the month. The Acura brand posted sales of 14,857 units in November, increasing 2.0 percent over the same period last year.

Acura sedans pushed an overall brand increase in November, led by the new popular TLX and growing momentum from the ILX.  Acura trucks also fared well, maintaining strong market performance as MDX continues to lead the Acura division overall.

    The Acura sedan lineup rose substantially in November, gaining 29.5 percent for the month on sales of 6,208 vehicles.
    TLX was Acura’s second best-selling model again in November with over 4,200 units sold, even as tight supply of some models in the TLX lineup kept the new sedan from eclipsing its stellar October result.
    ILX gained 4.4 percent for the month on sales of 1,652 units.

“The strength of Acura sedans is clearly on the rise since bringing the hot-selling TLX to market in late summer,” said Mike Accavitti, Acura division senior vice president and general manager. “And with demand outstripping supply, we see even more upside potential with TLX and the rest of our sedan lineup in the coming months.”

Team Honda Research-West (THR-W) returns to the 25 Hours of Thunderhill with two updated Acura ILX Endurance Racers. We don’t know much about this year’s cars, but it’s clear they are now sporting the exterior features of the 2016 MY Acura ILX.

The race is now underway at Thunderhill Raceway Park in California, and is set to end on Sunday at 12 pm.

UPDATE: #25 Acura ILX has finished 8th overall and 4th in the ES class with 604 laps. #27 Acura ILX completed 546 laps finishing 7th in the ES class.

    Second RealTime Racing Acura to be driven by Ryan Eversley
    Touring Car winner moves up to Pirelli World Challenge
    Joins Peter Cunningham in expanded Acura Motorsports effort

Acura Motorsports announced today that Ryan Eversley, a frequent Touring Car race winner and championship contender, will join RealTime Racing and veteran team owner/driver Peter Cunningham for an expanded two-car Acura TLX GT effort in the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge.

“To say I’m excited to be joining Acura Motorsports RealTime Racing and the TLX program is a massive understatement!” Eversley said. “It’s every driver’s dream to be associated with a manufacturer, and since I’ve worked alongside Honda Performance Development for the last five years, I feel like it’s a natural progression in our relationship. We have a huge undertaking ahead of us, but after testing a few weeks ago, I can’t think of a better team to handle the challenge. I’m extremely grateful to HPD for all they’ve done for me, and look forward to more success with them.”

Prior to joining Acura Motorsports and RealTime, Eversley, 30, scored five ST (Super Touring?) class victories driving a Honda Civic Si for Compass360 Racing in the Continental Tire Touring Car Championship, finishing second in the ST drivers’ championship in both 2011 and 2013. Three of those victories came in 2014, including the final two races of the season at Circuit of the Americas and Road Atlanta.

“We are very excited to see a talent like Ryan move up the ladder from his Honda Touring Car program to Acura Motorsports and the Pirelli World Challenge,” said Lee Niffenegger, senior program engineer with HPD for the Acura effort. “He’s been very successful racing the Honda Civic Si, while also building the necessary experience in various GT and Prototype cars. We believe HPD and our partner RealTime Racing have been making huge strides with the TLX GT during the off-season, and we fully expect to give the World Challenge GT field a strong run in 2015.”

Developed from the production Acura TLX by HPD and RealTime Racing, the Acura TLX GT features HPD chassis and aerodynamic performance parts approved for Pirelli World Challenge competition. It is powered by a direct-injected, twin-turbocharged V6 engine, developed by HPD from the production model, and utilizes all-wheel drive, as found in Acura’s SH-AWD system.

Eversley will drive the #43 RealTime Racing Acura TLX GT, alongside Cunningham’s #42 machine, which made its competition debut at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 2014. Established by Cunningham in 1987, RTR has raced and won in multiple series with both Honda and Acura vehicles. Since entering World Challenge competition in 1993, the team has scored a record 85 race wins, 14 Manufacturers’ Championships and 14 Drivers’ Championships.

Competing in the top category of the Pirelli World Challenge, the Acura TLX GT will be facing competition from the Audi R8, Bentley Continental, Cadillac ATS-V.R, Dodge Viper, Ferrari 458, Lamborghini Gallardo, McLaren 12C and Porsche 911 in 2015.

“The Pirelli World Challenge has a lot of strong competitors in GT, but the TLX is the only all-wheel-drive car in the category. For our four-door sedan to be racing head-to-head with the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini, among others, is pretty cool,” Cunningham said. “After our two initial outings in 2014, we’ve already learned a great deal and we will continue to improve the car during the off-season. When the 2015 season begins, we’ll be ready to go, and we’re already looking forward to the first race, at the Circuit of the Americas, in March.”

HPD was founded in 1993 as the performance arm of American Honda, to spearhead the company’s entry into Indy car racing. Acura recalls RLX over headlamp issue



Acura has issued a recall for its new RLX sedan to fix an issue with the all-LED headlamps.
The 'Jewel Eye' lights are built with a reflective film backing material that is said to be prone to delamination. The issue can result in non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, which relates to headlight aim, brightness, reflectors and other lighting aspects.

The company claims to be unaware of any accidents or injuries that have been blamed on the problem.

The campaign affects both 2014 and 2015 models, including approximately 9,700 vehicles sold in the US. Owners can expect to receive notification via mail sometime in early February.

Park Mode Malfunction May Cause TLX to Roll Away, Acura Halts Sales


The TLX sedan was revealed at the 2014 New York Auto Show as a 2015 model and has so far been a sales success for Acura, clinching second place behind only τηε MDX crossover. Unfortunately for Honda’s premium brand, it has just been hit by a recall.

Acura has instructed its US dealers to stop selling the 9-speed version of the TLX because the parking lock may not engage properly when the gear selector is in Park, therefore allowing the car to roll away.

Company spokesman Ben Nakamura said that Honda is investigating if there have been any accidents caused by this defect. Moreover, customers will be notified about the recall starting January 6.

“Honda’s creating a lot of challenges for themselves and is over-stretched”, auto analyst Satoru Takada told Bloomberg. “Recalls related to Takata airbags and the Fit also make them extremely sensitive about any possible quality problems.”

Since its introduction in September 2013, the Fit compact has been recalled five times in Japan, its best-selling market, causing delays in new model launches and forcing Honda to cut back on its sales forecast.

The 2015 Acura TLX is probably even more conservatively styled than some Audis, and that’s not a compliment. Aside from the blingy headlights, the rest of the design is dull, even if it’s handsomely proportioned.

It doesn’t strike you as a premium product, according to Consumer Reports, either inside or out. It’s not particularly bad in any area, but not quite up to the level of the class leaders.

You can still easily justify buying one if you factor in the powertrains and their known reliability, the cheaper acquisition price and the generous helping of standard kit. It comes with everything you’d ever need without ticking a single options box, and that’s something Acura has been doing much better than the Germans for years.

It’s biggest downfall is probably the fact that it doesn’t make you want to buy it with your heart – if you decide to go for one, you’re most likely doing it based on monetary calculations and not actual automotive preferences.

Acura Concept at the Honda Heritage Center

The Honda Heritage Center in Marysville Ohio opened its doors this month, and inside there’s a mystery Acura Concept on display. With the museum opening to the public in January, so far there isn’t much information about the vehicle, but it’s clearly visible in the video footage provided by Honda.

As some have pointed out on the forums, this 4-door concept shares a similar front end design with the Avengers NSX Roadster, especially the headlights. The grille however looks more recent, closer to the new 2016 Acura ILX. Its sloping roofline and hidden door handles remind me a bit of the ZDX.

Is the concept a design study from the past, or hint at a future model? We’ll keep you posted.
